Advent Question

Can anyone tell me the difference between Advent 3's & Advent 4's?

Both physically, and sonically?

I have a pair of advent /4s. They have an 8" woofer, and a 2" paper cone tweeter. The drivers were later used in the advent /9, which was a slightly larger verson of the advent /4.

I also own advent /3s They have a 6" woofer with treated cloth surrounds, and a 2" paper cone tweeter. They are much smaller than the /4s. They are power hungry, but they have an excellent sound quality for their size.

If you want I could get some demensions of the advent /4. I have a pair for sale here on AK.

Sonically they are very similar, except the advent /4s have slightly more low end from the 8" woofers. Other than that they sound similar if not identical. Maybe advent just wanted all their speakers to sound the same.

Do the /3 and the /4 use the same tweeter? - Mark

They are not the same at all. The advent /4 tweeter has a larger frame. The advent /3 tweeter has a frame with a tweeter mounted behind it, why they did this i don't know, but overall the cone sizes are the same. note attached pictures

That tweeter in the /3 looks just like the tweeter in the /2. Can anyone confirm that they are, in fact, the same tweeter? From what I've gathered, people tend to favor the /3 over the /2. Why is that? - Mark

They are "The New Advent". Some prefer them over the original. New foam and crossover caps (maybe resistors too...they go bad in some production runs) and you will have a nice sounding pair of speakers.
