Some people's earlier comments on the YouTube page:

> I'm willing to bet the pilot was too distracted from that tablet in
> front of him.... what!? why!? You're flying a freaking plane dude!
> GET OFF THE INTERNET AND FLY YOUR PLANE!!!!! I wish I could feel
> sorry for him, but that's just stupid right there!

How about it's set up as a navaid video display, mounted to the control
wheel? Anyway, I didn't see that he was USING it.

> why didnt the guy beside the pilot help pull the yoke for them to fly
> up instead of filming!

Would have stalled the wing, perhaps then going off on one side into
the ground...much less survivable.

> I'll bet his inner Sullenberger voice was yelling "Shut it off" half
> way down the runway and it still wasn't flying. He flew in ground
> effect until way past the end of the runway and the proverbial 50'
> trees were still above them two miles from the airport. He also flew
> over a lot of landable ground even past the runway.

Finally, a comment from a pilot. He lost ground effect when he went
over the trees. Yes, probably should have put it down earlier but the
"gotta get there" syndrome is all too well-known, especially when a bunch
of your friends are the passengers.

Some things DID go right that day...all of them survived.

I am very suprised on the first attempt at rotating he didnt abort.
And it seems as if he hasnt done the correct weight distribution. Probably loaded 100% fuel.

They seem strangely silent during the whole thing, why isn't anyone saying anything like "Hey Bob, there's Trees ahead" or 'Ahhhhggggghh"

I was wondering the same thing. I fully expected one of the guys to say, "hey, it doesn't look like we're going to make it."

As to the comment about trying to pull up, the pilot couldn't. He was barely moving through the air and any back pressure on the yoke would have immediately stalled the aircraft.

BTW, the pilot suffered "serious" facial injuries. Looked like maybe his jaw was broken and no telling what else. 70 years old.

No kidding it's like he did not have a GO/NO GO line in mind. He just
kept trying to get it in the air no matter what.

Crazy video.

I'm not a pilot and have never even been aboard a small aircraft, but it sure seems obvious that something is wrong.

Lucky men.

This is just the kind of thing that kept me getting drunk before boarding an airplane. I'm better about it than I was (don't drink anymore) but takeoffs still get my anxiety peaked.
If you talk to a bush pilot long enough, they all have a story or two about going down unexpectedly. In this case there was atmospheric conditions that caused the crash. The pilot may have flown the same route many times but this time was a little different. They were lucky to come out of the crash with the injuries sustained, it could have been a whole lot worse.
