A deck I always wanted, but certainly wouldn't buy anymore. I'd just be waiting for that single, unobtanium IC to fail. Nice piece to put into the cassette deck museum tho...

I don't understand why the big difference between this and "lesser" excelia decks (like the XK-009. And I can't understand the difference between the XK-009 and AD-F880. They are more or less the same. The AD-F880 is a very good performer and sells in top condition for less than 1/10th of that.

Looks, I am guessing. And the last TOTL from them. Thats about all I can figure.

I'm not an expert, but I thought the Dragon was the king? That E=bay price is slightly higher than when new. MSRP was 1150 new.

If you don't have a need for the digital capabilities, the 6900 is their prior TOL deck and is a fantastic piece of equipment. They also are underappreciated and typically sell for a fraction of the price.

Nice deck,but perhaps a little expensive.I purchased my AIWA Excelia XK-009 on a UK Ebay £99.99p "Buy It Now" around a couple of years back (although this was very cheap),luckily it had new belts fitted too.The MRRP was $1100,only $50 less than the slightly later XKS-9000.
It's a beautiful sounding and looking deck,especially love the extended twin transformers on it's rear.

Question is, does it sound as good as it looks?

From the specs, it should be an amazing performer.

As far as failed parts, if I had the $$ I would probably take the chance.

Sweet side panels, looks kinda like the tape version of the Sony X707ES CD player.

Anyone ever do a professional review on this deck?

Anyone own one and have an opinion?

Just had my ADF990 freshened up by a local guy,he said he has this deck and he sold all his Nakamichi's after getting it,must be pretty good!
