Walkmen for how much?

I thought the WD-3 was for DJs who wanted to record on location. I kind of thought they were a bit mythical (extremely rare). I'd heard of them but never seen one, for sale, before this listing and not only that one that has been modded. I'm kind of "wow" but at the same time I wouldn't buy it for that amount of money. A Walkman collector will probably buy it and never play it.

Just noticed the pre-approved buyers only. That pretty much means a buyer is already around.

There are (a few) walkman collectors, just as there are regular-gear collectors (AKers!) and boombox collectors, and yes, even early iPod collectors. For that matter, some people collect matches, swizzle sticks, fossilized feces (coprolites) - you name it! The collector instinct knows no bounds.

To a collector, rarity adds value. Condition adds value. Completeness (of packaging and accessories) adds value. Add all those up, and a few/several hundred for a walkman that scores on all counts isn't too surprising. There are boomboxes that fetch US$2000. Why not a walkman? Less flashy, but it's more portable, and probably sounds better, too! :D
