All these make me smile & remember my grandaddy Fritz's cars-He had a '56 Sedan DeVille, it was blue, I just BARELY remember it. The next one was a tan '60 Sedan De Ville, THAT was a CADILLAC...Huge compound curve windshield, soaring fins, acres upon acres of chrome, a one-car parade. Seems like it had A/C, too, which was unusual back then. The next one was a '68, in that fugly "avocado" green/gold/blecch color that was so big then...No chrome to speak of, kinda plain, no sex, kinda looked like a big lowline Chevy...The last one he had, & I have today, was a '73 Fleetwood Brougham in silver, w/a navy blue top/interior...It is almost as outrageous as the '60, Fritz was from the era that thought the biggest, longest, nastiest Cadillac you could buy was THE finest car on the road. He & my granmother went to Louisville about every 6 weeks, 2 months on business, He dropped her off at Rich's dept store on day, & had a couple of hours to kill, which is dangerous. He went by Cal Connell Cadillac, the big Brougham started "talking" to him, & he got it. My Gran about blew a gasket, the car was TEN THOUSAND DOLLARS...Fritz, have you lost your mind ?!? That's more money than it cost the Lord to make the world...I think she was pretty "Fuzzed Up" at poor ol' Fritz all the way home, a 4-5 hour ride. He was 76 then, we took away his keys about 18 months after that, as the Cad was just really TOO big for him to handle safely anymore. Consequently, it only has 35K on it now, & still smells new inside..472 cubic inches of Amurrican V-8 POWER...Pollution controls make it somewhat of a sluggard, though. 6 MPG in town, & a rousing 9-10 on the hiway means The Cataract doesn't get driven too often....
