I was hoping those two wouldn't be mentioned. I may not have the EPIs by the 13th. As to the Bozaks, they're in dire need of recapping, additional fibreglass inside, and have a mysterious slot port in the baffle that is or isn't supposed to be there. At least they're relatively light (~80lbs each) so I won't have to fight loading them. The ~140lbs Infinities can make it interesting to haul any distance alone.

Since this is starting to become an actual event, how about we do door prizes? Nothing fancy, of course, and since we're PacNor'Westers, let's keep it lighthearted. To that end, I'll donate a mint condition Yorx Q100 Mini Turntable with original box.

Anyone else want to pitch in? Have a spare Bliss Band LP laying around, here's your chance to get rid ... er, generously offer up this rock classic to a needy person.

I never get to play more than a track or two of my music at these meets, as soon as I try everyone gets the scolded dog look in their eyes and I'm compelled to pull my albums. If we ever have a meet with separate listening rooms, I'm going to play my own music, to heck with everyone else. I recognize that this runs in the face of accepted audio enthusiast music -- '60s, '70s rock or anything that sounds like it or audiophile approved jazz that is the only stuff I ever hear at these get-togethers -- but tough.


I need a few more years of practice, there's no way I can hold my own against you old farts. Just a mere fart in a hurricane, so to say.

Mike, how goes your plans on AK get-togethers? Have you decided not to hold your own since there seems to be a sudden plethora of May meets?

JP a suggestion with regards to Door prizes.

We could borrow something from the Mountain Man Rendezvous' I used to attend it's called a Blanket prize. What they do for shooting competitions at these events is that everyone participating in the event brings a prize. Each person decides for themselves what level of prize they want to bring.

The organizers will always provide like the top three prizes and then have a selection of lower end prizes to cover anyone not bringing something. In our case since there is no real organizer we could just rely on what indivuals bring.

All the items are placed on a large trade blanket for all to see during the event.

At the conclusion of the contest the highest score is allowed first choice and then down the ladder.

In keeping with our Pioneer History here in the NW we could do the same type of thing. Everyone coming could bring a prize or two. It could be something big could be something small as long as it is Audio related.

We put all the prizes on a table and then hand out tickets the first ticket drawn out of a hat gets first choice and so on down the order of the draw.

Idea's could include:

something like a piece of gear

Interconnects / speaker wires

Music: Albums, CD's etc.

A homemade item like a J pole antenna

A 6 pack of your favorite brew (hey it's audio related I'm pretty sure)

accessories that go well with vintage stereo like a lava lamp or black light poster

heck a swing by the local GW for a $13.00 Dual Cassette deck

It doesn't have to be expensive new or fancy just some little thing to add to the event.

If you guys want to do what Mark suggested,sound like a plan to me.Would add something cool to the meet,encouraging people to show up to possibly see what they might leave the meet with...a free item!!But like it was suggested,everyone needs to bring an item,I can contribute a few things audio related.
Now that things are starting to gell together,members signing in and hopefully showing up,ideas coming out of the woodwork,I'm really getting stoked about this meeting!! I know this isn't the absolute best location for everyone,and the room isn't what we all wanted to be,but I have tried to make the first jesture,just to get everyone together,see how it goes,and I'm pretty darn sure after this meet,we all will have ideas and suggestions for the next,how to do it better,what to consider for the next location/time of year,etc,etc.Let's just see how we all do on the 13th of May,I'm sure this will take off...who knows,some day,with planning,a little work,we could have own...dare I say...west coast version of AK Fest!!Now that would really be coool!! Well, I have no interest in actual door prizes that people might want. My suggestion was a parody of the multitude of audio gatherings around the nation that, frankly, consist of people too full of themselves. I'm tired of reading about kilobuck door prizes, wine tasting sessions at audio gatherings, and attendees who apparently memorize their favorite thesaurus immediately beforehand so they can comment on the sonic influences of BlueTac on amps and cryo-treated clocks. My thoughts were to make this a fun gathering where nobody wants the door prizes where there isn't the pomp and circumstance that is a bit too infectious in this hobby. I had no plan to bring my best gear or best sounding music, just whatever suits my fancy when I'm loading up my truck and what I'd enjoy listening to. If this is going to get serious serious, well, I might not work so hard to make it there.

Hey JP!!Nothing's written in stone as to what we have planned for extra activities at the May 13th meet.All I want,(and there have been some good ideas mentioned),is to get all the local AKer's into one room,have some fun,talk,eat(remember,I'm cookin' burgers and dogs),and otherwise,interact as a group of interested hobbyist/listeners/fanatic whatever about audio....so let's just all show up if we can,and get over the first hurdle...and we all know what that is!! :yes: Rob

JP I might be wrong but you were the one that suggested door prizes wern't you. I think you reading a little bit to much into what is going on. The post I made about Door prizes was specifically in resonse to your post.

We have a short time to put this little thing together and we are using this thread to try to bounce ideas around.

if you want us to understand that something you suggest or bring up is a parody I might help if you let us in on that.

As to what goes on around the country at various get togethers I would think that the NW area people can seek their own level if the group wants to sip wine in some fancy hotel and blow hot air about the latest whatever then I guess that is the way it will go. If on the other hand it ends up with a few guy talking about vintage audio then we can build on that begining. I have a feeling this is going to be VERY similar to the Dec 10th get together at Mark B's that we all had so much fun at.

I'm afraid I can't make it. My wife and I take our mums on a coast trip every Mother's Day weekend, been doing it for years. Regarding future soirees, Mark W. and I have talked about the possibility of doing a thing at my place. My house has the living room on one side, and a large family room on the other, with a room in between. and a 1500 sq. ft. shop behind it (which actually has two rooms). So JP can have a room to himself if he wants.

Rob, you don't know the kind of music I like, a half hour of listening to it might cause a riot. At the Graham meet, I tried to play one of my "guilty pleasure" disks, Midnight in Moscow that can best be described as drunk Russian acapella. The guys there tried to be polite, but once one of the guys started singing soprano it was obviously difficult for most to keep a straight face. - JP

Thanks for clearing that up. I didn't know what it was called, I only know that it sounded like this gent from the Don Cossack Choir had an unfortunate encounter with a vise.

Since we're not crashing someone's house with this meet, there won't be a system to hijack. So, could we get some firm commitments about who's bringing what gear? I'd hate to get there and find that we have plenty of speakers and amps, but no sources or the reverse.

Don't have a clue what I'll drag into the meet,got to figure out what I want to bring,show off,repair,clean.I plan to have a few projects going on during the meet,JP might bring over a cassette deck that needs re-belted,I'm going to put some "kit" speakers together,clean up a receiver...who knows what else.So this should be fun doing it in front of everyone...and if I screw something up,what better place to do it but in front a bunch of AK members...a win/win for everyone!!! I won't be able to make it either, that evening is the night of the auction for my school, and my presence is required.

I did put an ad in the May issue of Affordable$$Audio, and on the home page as well. Take plenty of pics and encourage everyone to write a little something. I'll be happy to put it in the June issue.

And I'm still looking for someone from My area (Silverton, Oregon) to share a ride with I'm driving just would like to split the cost of gas and have soemone to talk to on the 4 hour drive.
