All Time Greatest Guitarist?

Clapton's "Have you ever been Mistreated" is still one of the best he's ever done. Didn't enjoy his Unplugged: I need Electric Power!

I have always liked his Blue Power Live version on the Just One Night LP.

Unplugged was OK, but I agree, clapton plugged in is better

Rock: Hendrix went where no one had been before and it was great, if not technically the best.

Classical: John Williams

Country: Chet Atkins

Jazz: Jean Baptiste "Django" Reinhardt

Blues: This is a tough one. Roy Buchanan was a guitarists guitar player but the blues is about feeling. Albert Collins? Buddy Guy or Robert Johnson maybe.

Folk: Richard Thompson

Flamenco: Paco de Lucia

Honorable mention: Johnny Winter, Duane Allman, SRV, John Cippolina and others.

Sorry no time to decide on one song per artist!

Five pages, and no mention of the greatest flat-pickin' guitarist - Doc Watson.

I've only heard a few tracks by Doc but loved Hesitation Blues, the one he did with his son. Awesome picking!

If I ever run across a cd or lp of his I'll snatch it up.

Rick

Who's yours?

Mine is probably David Gilmour or Eric Clapton or Jimi Hendix Too hard to pick just one isn't it so top 3 is the call of today, Lets try and make this a little different from others.... Top 3 Guitarists AND which song they play which puts them into your top 3!

Jimi Hendix for All Along The Watch-Tower( or voodoo child slight return)
David Gilmour for Wish you were here( or Shine on you crazy Diamond)
Eric Clapton for White Room( or Sunshine of your love)

Sorry couldn't even name just one song VERY HARD you try!!

Thanks Daza:music:

Gilmore is my favorite, but the "best" may be Andrés Segovia or if he has to be still alive maybe Jose Feliciano.

jimi - "voodoo child" (the original)
jimmy page - "stairway..."
srv - "tightrope", "dirty pool" from the carnegie hall disc
slash - "paradise city", "estranged"
