Man, $1,000 a piece. I mean there’s a pair on eBay that sold for $2,000. And another pair that sold for $1,300. Plus a single that sold for $700. So I guess starting at a grand a piece isn’t too crazy.

I'd offer $1,000 a pair and say "Take it or leave it!".

I paid $1,200 for a pair locally a couple of years ago and considered them a good deal.
The cabinets are not as nice as the 4 in this ad and the grilles were missing.
But how often does something like that come up locally?
I waited for 10 years here.

With Ebay pricing, you have to consider freight costs.

If someone is local, I would say up to $1,500 a pair would be a good deal.
Great chance to pick up 2 pairs.

Since he's thinking $4,000 I'd offer an odd, not insulting $2,550 and negotiate up to a firm $3,000.

And pick up the Marantz quad amp and have some fun!
No affiliation.

Good point on them not coming up often. I do see the 8 ohm 846B or 846U versions come up a couple times a year, but rarely the 16 ohm.

That’s the point. He probably isn’t going to find a buyer locally for a grand a speaker. But at least he’s “trying” :)

My wife would have said to take them down to Goodwill. That’s why my speaker hoard isn’t stored where she can see it ;)

How many people want four large, red loudspeakers? Not many. If you are willing to take all four, it's fair to drive a hard bargain because you are one of only a few potential buyers. You could offer X for two and less than 2X for all four.

No junk there, he probably invested a fortune in audio back in the day. Don't underestimate that Sherwood, that vintage has many fans, though it may need service. Those turntables are prospects for flipping if they are in decent shape, except the Zenith. Buy something, spend some time shooting the breeze, make a new friend! I suspect it's an older seller who has to downsize. Be nice, karma comes around.

For a guy who loves music, he lives awfully close to an airport! :)

at $1000 a piece? Bad estimate.
If he can't spell Harman Kardon correctly, I'd ignore him as being clueless ... :D
