$50 for a pair of Flamingos. Qualifies for The Scores That Got Away, for sure.

I found some 902d drivers eventually. Space wise, the Bolero was a better fit for my listening space.

I don't think that you are quite over it.....

I’ve had some audio regrets like that over the years. Having a smartphone in my pocket helps now though. It’s easy to check the internet when you see something you’re unfamiliar with.

Man, $1,000 a piece. I mean there’s a pair on eBay that sold for $2,000. And another pair that sold for $1,300. Plus a single that sold for $700. So I guess starting at a grand a piece isn’t too crazy.

Frankly, if they're original, functional, and with the cabinets being in nice shape, $2000 for a pair isn't unreasonable.
I've owned mine since '77, so I've always made note of current mkt value over the years. I've seen them sell as high as $2500/pr. just in the last 5 years.
I don't get the impression that these were always his, comments like "I've heard they're worth..." makes me think he ended up with them some how.
And stacking them? My cabinets are pristine, under no circumstances would I ever stack one cabinet on top of the other, for storage or otherwise.
FWIW, these look to be towards the end of the run, maybe '72 or so.
The badge being mounted on the grille is the giveaway. The earlier versions had the badge mounted in the lower curved area of the base trim.

$3500? That is crazy. Here in s.eastern Michigan about a year ago I saw a pair of Barcelona's sell for that amount, but they've always been a premium.
Valencia's and Flamenco's have seemed to keep a consistent value between $1200 - $2000/pr, depending on originality and overall condition.
Grenada's and Milano's, which rarely ever turn up always command a premium.

Are you considering a pair for yourself? Do you have a 5.1 system? All 4 would make for a nice addition.

I'm not considering buying them but as a former Valencia owner, I'd like to see their cabinets and general condition and pass the info along here. I'm also building a pair of 846b drivers in custom cabinets.

And on the 5.1 system, I only listen in stereo and can't imagine a four speaker system that big.

Replace the grills with something that has a little higher WAF. Lol.

I had a pair once, they sounded great but very ugly to my eyes. I couldn't bring myself to mess with a pair of original Altecs in great condition, so I sold 'em.

That style is beyond ugly IMO. I'd at least take off that baroque looking, plastic grillwork and replace the reddish cloth with anything more "normal." But that Valencia 846A kind of sound would make it worth some cosmetic work.

I have no idea if they sold. The fanaticism around vintage audio one would think so.
