Interesting TS find - Altec-Lansing 105A bookshelf speakers. Look high end and sound great. Anyone know anything about them?

Looks like they're all dressed up in a nice veneer suit. The old audio directory lists them having their cabs tuned 3 points down at 40hz, the goodies crossover at 2.5k, list price of $375 in '89. That mid eighties Altec stuff doesn't show up very often on the market or for repair. Who knows how much of it was actually sold. I'd like to see some of those models, in particular the 511 or 512.

Milford, PA says it all...... it's an Altec Lansing Technologies aka Sparkomatic product. This is old enough to be US made, but it's not a real Altec Lansing Product. Sparky bought Altecs home line in 83 (I think 83), and then bought the rights to other stuff in the 90's when EV/Telex shut down the real Altec Lansing.

LOL.....................

Among the most hardcore Altec loyalists "Sparkomatic" is a dirty word, IMO there were worse than Sparky, like Larry Ling before them and Telex/EV afterward, at least Sparky developed new and original product, they were just a decade too late.

It's true they have none of the characterisitcs of our beloved vintage Altec two-way systems with compression drivers and large alnico woofers. But with that said, the few different models from this era that i've heard have been very good sounding speakers indeed, definitely an "east coast" flavor, but those "sparkoaltecs" are far from junk and very worthy if you can buy them right........................ replacements for drivers are basically unobtanium for most of em at this point, don't break em.:D

I had the top of the line version of those. OK speakers but really nothing to write home about. They were very well build and had good looking drivers. Both woofers were driven and in there own sub enclosures. Seems like it should have added up to some nice sound but really was kind of generic sounding.

Interesting. Are those the 512 model with built in amplification? Sounds dissapointing for a $4500 price tag.
