Amazon is prepping a high-fidelity TIDAL competitor

just discovered I'm on my sons account, I signed in, my first search comes up ZERO. 2 songs later a GD amazon music ad, jeesz, i'm frigging on it now, why show me an ad for something we already paid for? Second search...ZERO. I'm glad I didn't pay for this

Regular Amazon music, which is included with all prime accounts, is different than Music Unlimited, and has a much smaller library, not HD, and sounds like might have some Amazon ads.

Big fan of Qobuz - doesn't sound like AMHD plays well with Volumio streamer, so - not interested.

How do you play Qobuz on Volumio? I can get it to work only through the Volumio app, which is a pretty crummy interface. I have been trying to get both Tidal and Qobuz to see Volumio from their own apps, but can't get it to work like Spotify does.
I started a thread on this, but got no love.

Actually, I have switched from Volumio since that post, (Volumio bumped their price quite a bit, and you have to subscribe to the premium Volumio to get the Qobuz module)
Anyway, I am now running PiCorePlayer with Logitech Media Server - and Qobuz is a module you can install in the package.
I also installed the HyperPixel touch screen on my RPi4 - so I can control the PiCorePlayer via browser from my computer upstairs, my iPhone, or an iPad ... or directly from the touchScreen,
tho its a bit small to go through the Qobuz screens on the touchScreen.

You get what you pay for.

I've been using Amazon Music HD Unlimited, or whatever it's called, for at least a year or so now and have been very happy with it. I use it on a cheap Fire Tablet that connects to USB on either a Topping D50s or a Schiit Modi 3. It's not perfect but it's very good IMO. Sometimes the music will stop for reasons unknown, some kind of glitch on the tablet most likely, and it'll annoy me having to hit the play button again. That happens rarely, the selection of music and pricing are great, it's an embarrassment of riches really.

Is it bit perfect, or truly HD, or as good as Tidal or the others? I've found I don't care because it sounds fantastic to me and just works in my systems.

Moderator Comment: Sorry, no one had complained to the Mods, so I did not see the posts until this morning.
Its considered thread crapping to go into a "Digital Streaming" discussion like this and repeatedly insist that Vinyl is better ...
since those posts continued so long that poster is banned from further posting in this thread.
There are OTHER threads where that discussion can occur, but not in specifics topics like "Streaming Services."

And just to be clear, this is not my first rodeo. I have done records since the early 70s, and bought my Denon DP-45F new in '84 w/Stanton 681EEE
and still works great. I also have a Raspberry Pi4 streamer I setup last year that has a lot going for it.

The bottom line is - enjoy the music.

Amazon recently launched a free service to compete with Spotify. This is likely the version which has ads.

At $7.99 a month Amazon Music Unlimited ( formerly known as Amazon Music HD ) is the low cost leader for streaming hi-res content.

For that price you need Prime membership which is a no brainer for videos and free shipping.

I’ve been on both Amazon unlimited and Spotify for almost two years. I’m going to cancel Spotify. I just love “My discovery mix” for exposure to new music.
I love “my soundtrack” for what I’ve listened to the most in the past week also. But mostly I love how easy the platform is and how easy it is to build playlists. Just my experience.

Can you comment on your system integration re Amazon?

Im embarrassed to…
I bluetooth it to inexpensive receivers (newer Yamaha amp) around the house. Kitchen, living room, and primary listening room. I have all the supposedly impressive media, SACDs, vinyl, McIntosh systems… but the ease of musical whim at my fingertips is just so enticing that I rarely go into the listening rooms anymore. My experience.

I did not think there was any means for Bluetooth to deliver hi-res?

There isn't. Probably the "free" version, it is not AMHD. The hi-res version (AMHD) is a paid subscription.
Audiophile card now revoked. Good day, sir!
:rflmao::rflmao::rflmao:
Indeed, this is not hi res, super special SQ, discriminatory listening I’m engaging in. The kitchen system is for when I’m cooking, the dining system is for when we’re eating. I do not require ultimate SQ when I’m Bluetoothing my Amazon music… but I must admit that the time I dedicate to discriminatory listening these days is less than before. I herby release my audiophile moniker. :dunno:

Convenience matters!
