Another Super High End Phono Stage! No expense spared...

I got my boards in the US mail today, after a four day delay to get a registered mail receipt handled.

They look good!

Thank you Sachin

For Volume Control, Stepped Attenuator can be used like this. (no affiliation)

I already posted this to our local forum. Posting here again for benefit and idea of other forum members. I put my CNC along with Pass B1. Most important change is that this CNC phono stage is no more battery powered. Its powered by regulated PS.

Power Supply which I designed is referred here. Sachin' post here

I prepared aluminum faceplate (3" X 13", 6mm thick). I sprayed it chrome spray paint used for car alloy wheels. This is supposed stick to Aluminum. But waiting for com-paint lacquer (clear coat) to arrive as it will give some protection and shine to that color. I will post some pics after that.

Here are some impressions.

Here are some pics.

I will be showing front side of this gadget till I fix the faceplate.
This is 4 input device with CNC MM phono stage as one input.

You can see AC Mains fuse, I put 150mA fuse inside and ferrite bead on the wire to avoid noise.

Mains power inlet wires are fixed and put inside PVC sleeve for protection.

Mains indicator is 3mm LED + series 15K,1/4W resistor fixed to 22-0V of r-core transformer terminals.

There are two 330E, 2W resistances, one for LDR 12V supply and other for input selector's supply. Ground remains same for all PS

Watch out for volume control wires on PASS B1 board.

Today I finished faceplate. I am not so good in metal work still with my limited resources.

These are remaining pics.

Very clean, excellent looking!
2 questions:
-The RCAs appear to be isolated from the front panel with white plastic washers. Any reason not to tie the (-) of the RCAs to ground at the faceplate?

-the LED jewel, looks nice. Is that a bezel separate from an LED, or an LED bezel combination part?

Thanks.

I preferred star grounding at PS. So no RCA (except cartridge input RCA) grounded directly to chassis but though PS ground at B1 board. That's only point where PS ground connects chassis.
MM phono stage input ground connected only at CNC PCB, nowhere else. Which in turn connects to PS ground first rather than chassis.

Thanks.
Its LED mounted into SS bezel for 3mm LED like this

Nicely done Omishra! Clean & smooth. Your metal work is far away better than anything I have ever done.

Ear candy -&- eye candy.

A bit off-thread but possibly Omishra or someone else can help out. I'm interested in incorporating a 6-in RCA connector similar to what Omishra is using (http://www.ebay.com/itm/Input-Sourc...570?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3366b37722 (no affiliation)). The problem with this kit is, unlike the 4-channel model, this one does NOT come with the selector cable/pot. I've emailed the seller multiple times asking if he/they sell a proper cable/pot and/or if they sell what I'd need to make one. At this point the results are "lost in translation" and I've given up getting a coherent response. Does anyone here know what type of cable and connector I'd need to connect to this board?

Thanks ghazzer!

I think this kit is sold with that white cable which carries DC from PCB to 6 position rotary/selector switch. This switch is also included in kit. You need to mount this rotary on front panel and connect PS and audio inputs to that blue screw terminals on PCB. All this was there in 4-1 selector kit. knobs are not included. You need to buy them separately.

Is that you need to clarify from seller?

If you look at the listing for the 4-channel and 6-channel (both from the same seller), the 4-channel kit that you have has the cable and rotary listed as included. The 6-channel kit does not list the cable and rotary. I've asked the seller "Will this kit (with the proper link and name of item) come selector cable and rotary?" and gotten bizarre and non-committal answers. I don't want to buy the unit only to find out that I need to buy more. I'm up for making the cable if someone could point me towards what rotary I'd need, the type of cable used and the plastic connector that will snap onto the board. I'm illiterate when it comes to navigating Digikey so any direct links would be most appreciated.

Try asking in a bit more simple form: "Does the kit include everything in the picture?"

The photo includes the cable, connector and switch.

Good Luck

I tried that and got no response. Waited a few days and tried it again, no response. Waited a few more days and asked another questions, got a response to that question. Tried the initial question again and finally got a response that, yes, it does come with cable and rotary. Far too much hassling and flakiness for me so I went with an outboard Niles Audio switchbox from Specialidiot on Barter Town. All in one box would be nice but that can always be added later if I don't like the NA box.

I'm getting just now on this thread, and just read the first and last pages. So please allow me some lag.

This 6-channel kit would allow how many 6-channel sources?

For a long time I have been working on the idea of a DIY 5.1 control center to drive 6 power amps. For that I would need a 6 channel rotary/relay switch arrangement and a 6 channel pot.

Would this kit solve the source selection?

Hi, Welcome!

This kit discussed in previous post is 6 stereo input and 1 stereo output selector kit. With the help of rotary switch it just selects required stereo input by switching on the relevant relay which connects that selected input source to output.
I am not sure how its relevant to 5.1.

Here I shown my build with CNC MM phono stage as one input and other sources as remaining inputs using 4-1 selector kit.

OH, I see. I misunderstood the kit. It's a six stereo input kit, not a kit for 6 simultaneous inputs, as required for 5.1 sources.

Whoa, I still can't get over how nice and polite you guys are on this forum. Over on the "other DIy Audio" forum Carl would have been reamed and then ignored.
Nice guys indeed, :thmbsp:

Question about MM phonostage

Per the very first post on this thread, the perfboard was a MM phonostage. I saw that it moved on to MC, I think, so I'm a little confused by the octopus-like changes as the design evolved. I just want to make an MM stage on a perfboard (or old school p-2-p or ham radio "Manhattan" style).

Is the AD823 still the consensus best opamp? Any other suggestions like best input caps/decoupling caps/etc.? I am aware of the BOM on the first page, and I will most likely use it. But before I do, I just want to know what the state of the art is right now. :scratch2:

My goal is to jump in quick and dirty, and to experiment with different part and R values (esp. wrt matching ideal capacitance loads for my cartridge).

Thanks!
