Record clamp

Always wanted a Bren1 record clamp just because it looks cool.
But the new price shipped from the States was more than a little too much.
There appeared a secondhand one locally today and I snapped it.

It looks like you trade in your best stuff for new (also great stuff) a lot. Do you ever think back on one of the units you've traded in and thought it was something you wished you'd kept?

Hm, not really. Some new stuff also got traded away in past when the older ones stood strong (especially the AR-3a). Mostly I feel that I've upgraded when I get newer stuff. But you will note the speakers and the table still remain here.

Bose & ar

My mum's a vinylhead and she ordered me to get her some good vinyl.

She has a costly BOSE system at her place. Bulky old vintage stuff isn't going to find a room there.

So I set her up with a nice vinyl rig plugged into the BOSE.
V15III, XA & Nano.

I feel the Nano is a bit of an overkill. Might find some cheaper MM phono later and replace the Nano with that.

she likes vinyl so a turntable is always welcome there Guille. but I'll have to come over again and fix stylus pressure again. AR is a bit tricky with that.

Room reconfiguration

The lounge table was removed last week. I thought I might convert the lounge into a whole listening room for my personal use. Did some lifting over the weekend.

Before, the lounge looked like this:

Sorry about the crappy diagram (it is quite out of the actual proportion too), but I ain't no architect or graphic designer! The slim sky rectangle on far right is the window wall. The 2 golden squares represent my AR speakers.

I never liked this arrangement. The distance between the speakers and the listening spot was too short and restrictive. I had no space behind me as well which affects the acoustic too.

Now it looks like this:

I maximised the distance between the listening spot and the speakers by converting the lounge into a 'shoe-box' listening room.

The window wall behind the speakers is a bit of concern but the distance between them is quite generous. I also get to have some space behind me.

Now the whole sound is obviously much more spacious and airier. The concert hall experience has improved significantly overall. Due to the extension of the listening distance I increased the mid & high attenuation of the AR speakers.
