Any Soundcraftsmen owners in here?

A2502 power amp

Just thought I'd throw my 2 cents in. Bought a A2502 off ebay recently. It had some issues that I have/am fixing. The dc offset was 125mV and 48mV.Replaced the differential transistors with Zetex 694B that I matched the gains on. Now 20mV and 20mV. Re set the bias to .8V each channel. Noticed the a A gain pot resistance is off so I will be changing the pot at some stage.
So things put back together and turn on----no sound from A channel---rats.
Back to the bench, measure from speaker positive to A channel
on off switch-----120 ohms hmmmm. The lug to the speaker pos binding post had a high resistance connection. In addition at some point it had got so hot that the wire melted and melted the neg post wire that it was laying up against so they were shorting! I fixed this problem and amazingly the unit functions great now. I thought the output mosfets would be toast and they are pretty rare but no, that sucker fed a direct short for I dont know how long. Anyway thats my story. The amp sounds fantastic, much better than the amp section from my MAC1900 that it is replacing.

WOW This thread just keeps on pushing out info...
"Recapping amps"
"I have just sent one of my Soundcraftsmen Pro Power Four in to be recapped/cleaned/tested."

How much did the service work actually end up costing? RACINOFFRD

I will swear by the help my ears get from my RP-2215R. I am using it with a Realistic STA-78 and a pair of Bozak B 301 A's. I am trying to track down a pdf copy of the manual for it, as info seems scarce.

Just bought a minty MA-5002 amp.....haven't received it yet.

Just waitin........maybe Thurs or Fri........

First Soundcraftsmen product for me.

I have the THICK owner/instruction manual for the DX4000 series preamps.
I have the DX4000 and DX4200. Wonderful sounding *nonsounding* gear.
I've had numerous amps, and am primarily listening to the PA5001 + Luxman C-383 preamp right now.
Lemme find that manual.
I should make at least one copy to go with the DX4000, not much more trouble to make two copies, but it is at least 50 pages .... (not cheap for a poor boy like bully). But two pages would fit on 8-1/2x11 so not bad.

Soundcraftsmen preamp manuals are non existent, any chance that bully had his manual scanned into a PDF? I have a new to me SP4000 and wish I could figure out how to run my bi-amped Altec's running through a Behringer CX2310(also new to me) with the sub-out pushing (2) Alpine 10" subs.

I have a RP2215-R equalizer. Does anyone know the original published specs of this model? Can't seem to find much on web searches.

Jeffjeremy- I'm sorry I forgot about this thread for awhile. I payed $ 100 for each amp. I have two. This guy in Pittsburgh, Pa did the work for me. I live in Bellevue, Ne. Which is just south of Omaha. I had to ship which was another $30 something. I will have to mark this thread so I come back more often.

Just picked up a Soundcraftsmen DX4200 preamp and A5002 power amp in great condition. Hooked them up replacing my Yamaha C80 / Adcom GFA 535 and gave them a good 1-2 hour audition. The combo sounded great. Next day I noticed a hum loud enough to be of concern in the left channel. I isolated to the amp, so I pulled it and installed the Adcom. Been searching AK for info and hopefully I can get this beauty of an amp back up and running.

Is there anyone out there with an owners manual for a T 6001 tuner, Pro EQ 22 EQ, or a Pro Power Four. I would greatly appreciate it if someone can help and send a copy. Anyway that you can scan it and send it is fine.

I don't want to sound ignorant, but does anyone know the difference between a signal processor (SP) and a pre-amp? Is it just two names for the same thing?

Some SC info

"Racinoffrd"

Soundcraftsman Pro Power 4: 0.05% THD @ 205 RMS/8 ohms, 300/4 ohms per channel and 600 watts when bridged to mono. 4 ohms load clipping @ 405 watts.

The below pdf. is for RP2212 EQ wiring dia. but the EQ's are probably built quite similar even for different models. I do not have a Pro 4 owners manual pdf. The AK link has the Pro 4 schematics & a SC product Ad pdf's.

In the old days at least to me a signal processor was outboard unit something like a DBX, Phase Linear Autocorrelator, Dolby noise reduction or similar units. Could also apply to echo and tremolo units, equalizers, wah wah pedals or even a four channel matrix unit. Nowadays who knows, terminology has become so garbled in the audio field. I guess you could say a preamp is limited signal processor as it has tone controls and in older units a phono section with amplification and equalization circuit. But then again one could argue that any device that a sound signal is fed into and comes out different is a signal processor. All depends on how you look at it I guess.

Thanks for the explanation Old HiFi Guy
I have been wondering for a while now. That will help, when I'm looking for things to buy.

This is my one and only piece of Soundcraftsmen gear. Have it mated with the Realistic STA-2300 and it sounds great!! Well made and looks good too.

I got a Soundcraftsmen Pro power 10 about a week ago.

2/3/4 Channel
205 wpc (4-channel) @ 8 ohms, less than 0.05% THD. 300wpc @4 ohms (4-channel). 600wpc (2-channel) @ 8 ohms, less than 0.05% distortion. s/n ratio:-105db,
55 pounds in a 2 rack space unit. This thing is heavier than any component in my system including the 15 inch Dahlquist DQ-1W sub in walnut case.

The four channels bridged to 2 for 600W @ 8 ohm into VERY power hungry Dahlquist DQ-10 creates a deep and wide sound field, very clear sounding amp.

It competes with the Adcom GFA 555 and has won due to shear power that DQ-10s love.
The Adcom is doing the subwoofer duty now. I went from using Pioneer SA9800 (100WPC @ 8) to Adcom (200 WPC @ 8) to Soundcraftsmen (600W @ 8). All did a great job of powering the DQ-10s but as mentioned way too many times before, the DQ-10s love the watts.

The amp is a bit fussy though. There is lot of noise unless you use the 3 prong to 2 adapter...even with a Furman power conditioner the noise is not filtered out unless I remove the ground on the 3 prong connector. Very annoying but this could be an internal issue too.

Another problem is that I am getting low volume on left channel in bridge mode (A). If I play around with the RCA input connector then the volume goes up so trying to figure out whats really the problem. Hoping its minor.
Any suggestions to fix the noise or volume imbalance would be appreciated!
