Anyone doing a garden?

I have a couple golf ball tomatoes on one of the Big Beefs. It got cold and rainy but that's OK because I just put in another 10 peppers, 2 Brandywines (rescued from a dumpster at the farm supply), 4 parsleys and 5 basils in the last couple of days. We're pretty much full up until something comes out. The snow peas are pushing 5 ft. tall and have blooms on. Can't wait for some stir fried peas. The lettuce will be done by the end of June and the peas by mid July, maybe some melons or something can go in the space. I like to keep it working for 3 seasons.

Well the rain last night almost levelled everything so I went ahead with the weed blocker. Later this afternoon if there is no rain the tomatoes, bell peppers, cukes and zuchinni go in along with a bunch of marigold seeds around the outside, critters don't like marigolds.

Ok I have my 3 week update shot with showing growth the shot on the left is from the 11th of May and the one on the right is from the 2nd of June.

Nice set up. It looks like you have the space to do some serious gardening.

Its really too much my grandmother bless her soul planted stuff every where from the lilac that I'm in a fight to the death with to all the grape vines that some how grow across the yard to attack the apple tree's...
What I didn't show is my driveway that's lined with scott pines that are dieing from some disease that no one can solve or originate this is happening all around here. But any ways not many bee's here this year so not many apples. I have 6 or 7 kinds of apples the granny smith red delicious macintosh, paula red, red and gold delicious and a few hybrids. My front yard is 3 acres and takes quite awhile to mow. When I was little my granma had strawberries all up and down the front yard theres still taps in the yard for the irrigation Some day I wish to fire it all up again but its just to much work I don't know how she did it all those years

.....I wish a small moving brook was close....I'd carry buckets of natural water to my plants any time, instead of using city drinking water that has the chemicals....I agree with SpartanManor, you could bust off a 100x50 ft garden and make seasonal money at curb market vegetables sales, or sell directly to small food stores....family restaurants especially seem to buy vegetables from the public....

Well my basil from seed is coming along slowly but I figure it will still do fine once I get it outside. I will not need to worry about it going to flower too soon. I will most likely get these guys outside in the next week. I did cheat and plant some store bought basil that are much bigger but there is nothing like doing plants from seed.

I container planted 3 tomato plants and 1 pepper plant Tues. Will probably get some more pepper plants this weekend. First time doing this for me. But I have a friend experienced in growing tomatoes advising me. Got 3 different variety of tomatoes, Big Boy, Better Boy and Husky Red.

Looking good! Are you growing any other kind of herbs?

I have a rain barrel next to the tomato garden and this year so far it has stayed full. It saves me from brining the hose around from the front. I still need to get that hose bib installed on the back side of the house.

Organic fertilizer and water and you will do fine. :thmbsp:

Post some photos when you get a chance.

Oooh, herbs in the spring! I like to pick oregano, tarragon, mint and chives and put lots of them into a fresh salad with some Greek dressing or vinaigrette of your choice. Makes you feel alive after winter.

.....I guess I got tender-hearted that first day, when I looked up on the window sill and saw three remaining Bradley plants, fresh from the store, looking for "their" bucket.....

Anyone else cutting your tomato plants way back? Now that my plants are pushing 4 feet tall I have been thining them out aggressively. I am leaving the buds but getting a lot of "wood" off the plants. I figure this will help them "breath" better, allow more light to get into the plant and focus the plants strength on the fruit. I just took about 1/3 of the plants growth off this evening, this is the 2nd time I have done this now. I have fruit and tons of flowers.

My pepper plants have several matrue pepers already. This evening I finally planted some of my basil from seed into the garden. Hopefully the basil will take off now. The seedlings finally doubled in growth in the last week so I think they are now mature enough to face the elements. The cucumbers are gowing like crazy almost doubling in size daily. I do think I got my peas in too late as it is now getting to warm and they are just starting to take off.

How is everyone else doing with their gardens?
