Anyone doing a garden?

Everywhere, toxcrusadr. Seeds, however, are still relatively cheap. :D And if you're not real picky about what your pots look like, you can make them out of all kinds of inexpensive stuff you'd usually toss out.

I'm going to try my hand at hanging tomato plants this year. Hope to have something going by the week end. Ah loves me some homegrown 'maters.

My backyard garden borders my dog pen and yesterday afternoon late they
started barking and carrying on like something bad was wrong down there.
I had a feeling what it was because there were barking at the ground and baying like they had something cornered.Picked up my shovel and walked
down the hill and sure enough, they had a copperhead all coiled up and striking
at them. Dogs were all bristled up on the backs of their necks and showing
teeth and all. Snake was no match for a swing from the shovel, chickens safe
garden safe,good dogs!!

Well we won't be doing one this year. The landlord decided to do some construction with the house (in the winter, to SAVE MONEY), and without getting into the details (because talking about it still pisses me off big time), the landlord had some guy come to clear all the dirt from the driveway, and he took half of it. The other half went into the garden in a big pile. And this dirt was full of garbage, clay, etc. So no garden this year.

.....sorry to hear this, Wilkes....you might consider a couple of buckets.....

Good news and bad news on my garden at the cabin.Tomatoes are rockin
and over half way up in the cages, green thick and happy. Corn, not so good
looks like we have lost half of it or more. All of it came up only days after
planting along with the pole beans but 5-6 weeks of overcast and rain almost
everyday put the hurt on it.I will try to replant some seeds to replace the
wilted and missing ones this weekend.Squash, okra and onions doing well
looks like most of the watermelon seedlings died out also.We need some sun.

.....HatchetJack, I didn't even get a smell with corn, and if these tomato plants had been in the ground with the rain and dark days we've had, well, I just don't know....am glad I tried the buckets at least once....I can run a couple inches of water through the buckets any time I want to....even three or four times a night, and the roots are never in standing water....you get totally moist potting soil for growing at night, and you keep up with the next day's sun....and, should I have to be out of pocket for 24 hours, the topsoil slab of wet mud will keep things from getting to any critical levels no matter how hot it gets....(famous last words :D).....

.....I guess I should pass out cigars....got some tomatoes showing on both type plants....only one small one on the Big Boy plants about the size of a small marble, but I've got an over sized golf ball on a Bradley plant, and a big marble right beside it....gimme' a B, gimme' an R, gimme' an A, gimme' a D, etc.....

.....the auto-focus 50mm normal lens wouldn't focus on the subjects, and caught every stem, flower, and cage piece leaving the subjects fuzzy, even at 5.6....so, I had to pull out an old manual-focus Nikon 85 1.4 from the '70s to get the shots....I hung with the focus as best I could without reading glasses, I might add....looking at the proofs, I noticed right off colors and saturations are better with the newer Nikon lenses, contrast also....but, I'll have to admit, the old 85 1.4 manual gives quite decent image-quality.....pictures next.....

.....was just looking at the tomato blown up big....what are those brown bugs that appear to have about six legs, and the tiny white worms?....seriously, am I about to be involved in a salad bar effort?....is there such a thing as a tomato mite?.....

.....just checked info.com, and it looks like I have a case of Tomato Russet Mites on my plants....it says they go from being white worms to the brown things....it said they eat small holes in the stems and leaves, and suck juice out....they also suck juice directly out of the tomatoes themselves, help!....HatchetJack, what do I spray on them?....anyone?....I've never noticed them before on plants in the ground....picture next.....

I believe a spray containing Pyrethrin will do it.

There are other sprays that contain non-toxic substances that basically coat the bugs and suffocate them. They do work, but with more frequent application and less overall effectiveness than an insecticide, IMHO.

sounds like you need some chemical relief,

it's a shame with fruit showing,

otherwise i would recommend an album washing protocol,

soap wash with a vacuum

Pour some powdered "Sevin Dust" in an old sock and shake over each plant. That should send em packin.
.....Guys, I'm gonna' try what HJ says here considering I've got some 7 dust left over from the "fleas in the carpet" times.....

.....I read further earlier, that the Tomato Russet Mite is not that serious a threat unless the leaves and stems themselves, begin to turn brown from the body count of the mites....but, I'm about to shake some 7 dust out of a white sock with the end tied in a knot....I don't want even one of them brown mites or worms eating on my tomatoes :uzi::uzi::uzi:.....

.....considering it's you saying it, WhoArU, I'd bet money it would work, but I'm going to try running the tomato mites out in the grass for the birds to eat....when you see birds working fresh-mowed grass, the odds are they ain't lookin' for seeds.....
