I'll echo DIY. Note the two different screws holding in the terminal block. Typical of a do-it-yourself installation.

Not too many DIY'ers have that clean cut of a hole for the terminal plate area and mount them from the back side. Most would use a top mount terminal cup it would seem.

The woofers look like "Sonic" Brand (cheap Pioneer spin off).

Thanks AKers, you're probably right. Probably DIY. The seller listed them as "antique", and they do look like the 80s. Best left alone.

Is that paneling on the sides? They sort of look like modified podiums, IMO...

I've seen a lot of speakers, like the rest of you, never saw anything that looked like those. Another DIY vote here.

I think they are store bought speakers with the woofers replaced. Pull the top two drivers and lets have a look.

I'd agree with both of these points. Open 'em up, if you have 'em.
