AR 11 speakers

I am also curious on this 3 way speaker anyone own these. What are opinions on these? I have been told they are like AR 3a speakers.

I can tell you what they sounded like in the early 80's...incredible.

I restored a pair that came out of a studio, out of my 25 sets of speakers they are one of my favorites. They do have similar drivers to the AR-3's, the woofer is a later model though. I refinished the cabinets, refoamed the woofers, and recapped the crossovers, they look and sound awsome!

I used to have a pair. A good speaker in it's class, similar to ADS 810's but with more bass. Never had the AR-3's though.

They're very good.
AR-3s are also very good but limited in HF extension; a bit "soft" to modern expectations.

they suck, if you come across any, I'll do you a favor and "dispose" of them for you

I have a pair that are recapped and (pretty much) completely restored except for needing to build some grills for them. They are an outstanding pair of speakers and sound good no matter what genre I throw at them; at least the genre's I listen to. 58lbs each and very solid construction...great low end....great clarity....and they spanked all 3 pairs of AR-2ax's I've owned (and sold) in the last 5 years.

I've got AR-11's and ADS L-810's. Both superb. The AR-11's horizontally, perhaps on top of a larger speaker, at ear level, are really nice. Great seperation and tones. Very good build quality. I highly recommend them.

I have a pair that were given to me as the store was going to throw them away. They needed the cabinet to be refinished and also refoamed. I few other issues had to be resolved as well. They came with one original foam grill which is in good shape and I stiff have. I did build new grills using the up-graded fabric and they came out looking very good.

Very nice sounding speakers.

I am very pleased with them.

They are 4 ohm so need a reasonable good receiver to drive them. I am using a Yamaha CR-800.

I also have a set of AR2Ax's that I refinished. Probably not going to keep these though. One thing about these speakers is that they are very clear and low distortion on the bass.

Yep, cheaper and easier = less cost and more profit. Better yet, have it made in China. I love my AR-11's

Sorry for bringing back this old thread, but I have a chance to buy a pair of 11's and am on the fence. I have several speakers that I love, including Cornwalls, KLH Model 5, Six, and 23's. The 5's in particular have really been blowing me away lately with a Fisher 500B receiver. So I'm wondering how the 3 way 11 would compare to the 3 way 5, if anybody in fact has heard both of them?

The early AR 12" systems are hard to beat. I'd have to at least audition them.

The AR-11 is a great speaker but will be much more like the KLH 5 than any of those others. I've heard both, but there were three or four decades between the auditions, so I cannot provide a very reliable A-B comparison
