AR XA Suspension Spring Upgrade

Hi,
I am going to order new springs to replace the original springs installed on an AR XA turntable (no mods, stock table).
Would this spring kit from vinylvirnana be the correct choice?

Looks about right. Contact Dave at Vinyl Nirvana to ensure the spring set is what you want. I've used mine and can use a record weight because the replacement springs are more Linn than AR. It's what I wanted and works a treat. BTW I updated an AR 'The Turntable' and Dave set me up with the right kit. Get a belt or two while you're at it. JMO, YMMV

Have sold 300 of these XA/XB kits at this point...with lots of positive feedback and no complaints. They especially help with taming horizontal movement...the thing I see as the biggest weakness in the 50-60 year old originals. Lack of lateral movement will aid in better speed stability because the belt will no longer pull the whole subchassis towards the motor.

As Christopher P notes, this is NOT the ES-1/EB-101/AR the TT kit, which is a stiffer spring, requiring the addition of mass or a record weight if used on the XA/XB.

OP, that is the right kit. From experience, get the lightest springs possible for a stock AR. And get the belt that best goes with it if you need one.

Also, when you level the platter up after installing the new springs, you might need to twist the springs around so the tonearm post is centered up.

(Interesting. I never thought about the horizontal movement part. Soft vertical and just the right horizontal? Can't say I know my spring engineering, but these work.)

I would stick with the stock springs the one where the tonearm sits is actually different.
I use same as OEM new rubber grommets and foam with the supports.
Then adjust and you are good to go.

The OP has an XA. All three springs are the same on that model.
