AR2ax grill removal

Very nice acquisition. I'm jealous, as the AR 2ax was my first set of speakers purchased new in 1966. I loved them and wish I still had them. Good luck with your restoration.

Those are exceptional.Do you plan to re-cap? How about cleaning the controls on the back, they generally always need work.
Be careful around those thin tweeter wires,a real bitch to repair if you break one,ask how I know. You deffinately scored on those.
I didn't recap them as I did not know if I would be keeping them or not. Turns out, I am not going to keep them. I did pull the control pots, pulled them apart and cleaned and lubed them. They were in pretty good shape. Nothing like my AR-3's were. They work almost 100% now. These cabinets are the cleanest I have ever seen, except maybe the AR-5's I had a few years ago.

These were made in April 1970. And they are done as far as I go. The next owner can recap if they want to. Beautiful speakers, but I cant justify selling the Heresy's to keep them.

Great resource! The step-by-step guide is amazing. A friend dropped off a pair of AR-2axs that aren't making any sound. The hi/low pots were the scratchiest I've ever felt. Just starting to dig in.
Replace those caps that are buried in that block of wax with new ones.

The pair I recently bought had caps that my cap checker couldn't even recognize.
