AR9s for $800; good deal?

I've read good things about these but I have no idea of their market value.

In my opinion, yes, they are worth every penny, especially in that condition. Be prepared to have a high-powered amp for those though.

I can think of alot of other speakers I would own for $800.

That seems high on those; I've seen them much cheaper on various Craigslist listings. There's also the possibility of them needing a recap or refoaming.

$800 is top dollar but not out of the ball park. Make sure you like the sound when auditioning them and make sure you don't talk yourself into buying them. Personally, I think they are a flawed design. The opposing woofers firing out of phase generates excessive bass that is poorly defined. The side firing layout also makes the AR9 over sensitive to placement because of unpredictable reflections inherent in the layout. Way too easy for standing waves to occur.

I agree with SoCal Sam, I helped set up a set of speaker's something like those year's ago and we had so much trouble trying to bring down the Bass resonances that they finally wound up as the garage speaker's (where they ROCKED !!!!!!!)

I missed the phone call from a seller asking $100 for a pair in Atlanta two weeks ago.

They were the variation with the down-firing sub, and in need of re-foam.

Oh well, the WAF factor would have been pretty dismal.
