Are soundbars and Bluetooth speakers killing hifi ?

No more bulky maps. Using a calculator or slide rule. They have changed society. Just like the combustible engine did, penicillin , the computer.

The older we get the less we like them, but we are a dying breed.
 
Better sound through advertising.... how companies trick the consumer .
I’m sure non audiophiles swear it’s amazing ..I’ll never understand them .

I doubt it’s even the worst soundbar .. who knows . I’ve witnessed loyalists to this brand In person they won’t compare speakers tho .

my grandkids have a flip something and they stick it up in a tree when we have gatherings at the farm. for a small thing it does a pretty good job of filling the area with decent sound.

They sound great if you have realistic exceptions, if your one of those people I never want to be and want it to sound like your home ****, you’ll be disappointed.

I've been playing this game since the mid 60's and have a pretty good idea on what my expectations are given a knowledge of the physics involved. all things are relative.

I have an uncle that can only listen on something as good as him home system, so he bitches about “great” small BT speakers at family functions. He’s the type I am referring to. That said he has been one of my best mentors :rockon:

When that has happens to me in a real room (not a show) it’s a few other issues going on also. JMO

Edit: but agree about the Bose, all my Navy buddies had 301’s... did the job.

I was talking about tone, not volume. Some heavily touted and audiophile approved speakers have a tizzy balance and/or high frequency resonances that I find distressing. Some such speakers gave my wife, a violinist and cellist with a very good ear, an earache, no lie. She detected a low level harsh resonance in a Magnepan we were considering and once identified it was plain to hear. I think some people interpret such resonances as added detail.
