Are soundbars and Bluetooth speakers killing hifi ?

Some heavily touted and audiophile approved speakers have a tizzy balance and/or high frequency resonances that I find distressing.

Opinion and personal preference (which is the human factor of the hobby ). If you use that generalization about “approved” speakers. I find it hard to believe that in the 10k’s or 100k’s of audiophiles that approve that there wouldn’t be people as qualified as you two to make that call.

We had a Bose 321 system when it first came out. We used it for the tv and also music. It was very good for movies and would do some freaky things with sounds. It was decent as a second system for music.

On a serious note, I wonder if it actually is . I see both sides of it. 1) people that are going to get into Hi-Fi are going to find their way anyhow. 2) Some who would end up in the Hi-Fi world stop at good enough because new stuffs be putting out good SQ for short money and a small form factor.

As with almost everything the answer is probably somewhere in the middle

Next month I'm moving into an apartment up in downtown Kent Washington and will be able to go with a conventional hi-fi again, what I'll do is much on my mind.

True. I was talking to a friend of mine in the UK the other day. He has some Arcam gear, and also some vintage Technics gear that was his father's. But he was asking me about some BlueTooth speakers he'd bought, and why did they sound so bad. I said to him "dude, restore your Dad's technics amp". It's an SU-V4, the one with the power meters.

I'll say this for Bose; their speakers never made me want to leave a room as some audiophile approved speakers have.

They may not makes me want to leave the room but they don't make me want to listen. When someone demos their Bose "whatevers" my first thought is, "Please turn them down".

Consider yourself fortunate. As part of the radiation therapy to my throat, removing my teeth was not an option. With that said. My dentures allow me to eat hard candy by biting and chewing. Gummy Bears, Cashews, Mixed Nuts, all manner of chips and Salt Water Taffy are some of the food (snacks) that I still enjoy.
