Are the Numark DDs really that terrible for audiophile?

lostharizon if you want to fish at the bottom of the turntable ocean the AT is an option, personally I wouldn't waste my time energy and money on one, much better fish to catch. Nerver owned and never will own one.

I dont expect it to replace my Kenwood KD 990 or my Garrard 401, but I have it very cheap as a non working project and have heard mixed opinions on it.

I have just obtained an AT Sl lp 120 that is a non-runner, so I have another project to work on, can anyone out there that owns one please give me an honest opinion on what they are like?

I have it’s older sibling pl120 ,speed is dead on had to add more silicon to the damper for the arm cueing, easy fix ! added a rubber mat with an acrylic one underneath it to get the correct hieght and had the revised antiskate from audio technica installed and replaced the cartridge with a sumiko pearl . Overall I like this table ! It’s my daily driver have a belt drive Rotel in good working order same cartridge and a new belt ,where it’s a little quieter than the pl120 the speed and bass and dynamic response sounds better to me than the Rotel ! It’s a nice table to use ! like the quarts lock the brake speed control all works well ! Is it a technics no but it’s very decent also with repairs and purchase price I’m into it for $150 not counting the cartridge , which if I ever sold it I’d put the original one back on it !

I cant understand why there is so much negative reaction to audio technical turntables, I know they have copied the technics sl1200 design but they have not tried to compare its quality to a much more expensive make, I am only trying to establish if the AT is worth the effort of repair work and to get feedback from owners who have had them for a period of time like yourself.

Love mine ,it’s an older unit but still looks sounds and operates like new ! And for the modest investment I have in it it sounds good ! I’ve had it for 5 years use it often ! I give this table credit for getting me back into vinyl it’s so nice to use ! It’s like my Seiko Rolex look alike is it a Rolex no but it cost a lot less looks and performs very well !

Love mine ,it’s an older unit but still looks sounds and operates like new ! And for the modest investment I have in it it sounds good ! I’ve had it for 5 years use it often !

I think the one I have is the last of the models before the X came out, I prefer it because its made of metal and has the AC motor and VTA adjustment, I picked it up cheap because it wont switch on, I have been reading up on possible causes and will see if there is something I can fix. Thank you for your comments.

I would drop the arm on a blank disc turn the platter manually to check if the antiskate is working if not get the revised antiskate spring and replace it while you’re in there ! With a little tweaking it’s a nice table , I never understood the hate against it as well ! friends of mine that have them like them a lot ! Still have a technics on the bucket list but until then it will do nicely .

It had become a bit of an obsession with me, but I am selling my house and buying a smaller bungalow as its easier when your getting on a bit,
