ive been a collector of gear for a long time, but what if they really arent? the white vans? like i said im just really curious

2325fan, like in Marantz? might catch fire or just plain blow-up with WVS's, is music land near Boston, go listen to them. if they sound like $200 that's what they are worth, and like I said they are getting bolder with the pricing, used to be you were out $200 $300 and a chunk of your ego/pride. $2,000 plus could be wife strangles husband with speaker wires,then smashes head open with still smouldering very heavy Marantz receiver!!

That's a +1. I have a bunch of there 5 1/4" drivers that PE blew out a few years ago. Not a sound for everyone but they do build quality stuff.

Ok you and Rich are pretty well repespected here and, I just get a bad feeling on these, I would not spend $$$ on some thing unless a whole page of ya'll said Run! Run! there's a lot of great deals out there on well known great speakers for that kind of dough.

I thought you were interested in these, sorry misunderstood, if I go to a thrift, or see somthing on CL, I do what you did and post to get response from folk's here or look them up, Nice Marantz BTW, I'm an electrostat guy, very hard to assess them untill they are in your house/with your equiptment!

These are not white van in any way shape or form!!!

I have had Def Techs (2 seperate pair) before and they are a excellent speaker made with high quality drivers and producing excellent sound.

I don't know that I would say RUN! As the asking is a good amount, but, if you like bipolar sound (wide and enveloping) then these could be the ticket.
Definitive Technology makes a fine speaker.

If you are curious, do your research. I would never buy anything out of curiosity with out some evidence. For the same model -- White Van people are asking anywhere from $100 to $2000. It's a snake oil medicine show in a cabinet.

It's a well structured enterprise and the current ones on eBay and craigslist like DiVinci, Kirsch, Genesis Media Labs even have their own web sites as part of their scam.

Notice a lot of times they are never opened and complete with packing straps or they say these are extra or a gift they can't use. They always seem to be in mint condition because people just don't use them and don't want them.

the question i posted was are these the van speakers? thats all i never stated anywhere that i wanted to buy them. i only buy gear made before 1980. the only reason i asked my question was because i have never heard of this company. thats all just plain an simple, i honestly wouldnt take em if he was giving em away

i have a hard time writing what im thinking thats all. but yea i was just curious bout these. 1) im not looking to get em 2) just mainly tryin to figure out whats a valid speaker company out there nowadays just to help out some of us thats all. esp since i see alot of youngsters joining our wonderful forum :thmbsp:

Def. Tech are definitely not white van speakers. They've been around for quite a while and were sold by stores like Magnolia Hi Fi and Ultimate Electronics. I never really cared for them all that much (not a big fan on bipolar design) but they're well built and sound very good if set up properly.
