Are you a vinyl junkie? Hoarder?

I was in the used vinyl place today, looking for something I needed. Didn't find anything, although I found several things I wanted (some of which I left behind).

Then I saw a clean copy of Leo Kottke's 'Dreams And All That Stuff', which just so happens to be my favorite of his. My early release LP is in great condition, and this copy I saw today is of similar vintage, and in VG+ shape. It was less than $3, and so I added it to my stack. A spare copy I didn't need.

There are several LPs I have multiple copies of. In some cases, I'm looking for a better pressing. In others, I appear to be trying to corner the market.

Anyone else guilty of excessive vinyl redundancy?

why, yes, mr. pmsummer, yes I am.
When I retire, I intend to go through, clean, play and sort the chaff that's collected for the past decade or so. The rest of them, bought new, will probably be with me to the end.

I probably could not enumerate how many copies of Who's Next there are in this house on vinyl... plus some other media (I know that my 8-track Who's Next broke a long time ago, but I think I might still have the tape itself spooled onto a 5" reel).

That's not, like, abnormal, is it?

I used to have 10 LP copies of "Sticky Fingers." Now I'm down to three (sister's copy, US "west coast" copy, and UK copy).

If I find a "Time Out" at an estate sale, I pick it up and give it away. No need for a 4th copy.

I am new to the vinyl addiction. So my inventory is limited (~200). I find, though, that I am creating redundancy because I forget what I have at home. Of course my taste is limited, so I hit on same/similar items whenever I hunt. My source stores offer inexpensive vinyl ($.75) so impulse buying is easy.

Not really. I have about 300 lp's now and find myself taking as many lp's in for trade as CD's already. Can't see my lp collection growing beyond 500. I have at least 2K CD's. I don't have a vinyl "want list" like i do for CD's. I generally just browse for records out of curiousity more than anything and easily resist temptation when i already have a copy of the CD. Every once in awhile i'm weak with a title i esp. like and/or wanna a/b the CD/lp. Which is often very enlightening once one hears the difference in real time between the mediums...warts, glory, warmth, icy clean, etc. and all. :D

No idea how many LPs are here anymore. Whenever I look through some, I see records I never knew I had.

+1, I started an inventory awhile back, I got as far as J and had 35 pages on a spreadsheet, perhaps I will finish after retirement. :D

Who Me?

Ooops... I even left one out. An English cast recording I have that must be in a recently played stack not yet re-filed.

I'm certainly not a vinyl junkie by any means, and I can tell you that the only reasons I bother with Vinyl is:

1. Music I like has never been released on some form of CD.
2. Good Vinyl still sounds better than digital (at least for now).
3. I can't afford "The Tape Project"

Best Regards,

The other night I was fooling around with a friend on Facebook. I posted about a Chicago Symphony Orch. Living Stereo copy of Pictures at an Exhibition I was playing. When it was all said and done, I managed to find 9 different copies of this work. And that didn't even count the Emerson Lake and Palmer version (3 :D).
With this mess moving past 6000 in number, I've run out of shelves to store them on. There are stacks of records all over the floor of my office and at any given time at least 100 leaning up against the fireplace in the living room (maybe a better place would be IN the fireplace). Those are the ones I'm currently listening to.
I can't even bring myself to get rid of the obvious crap. I put a Cristopher Cross lp :puke: back on the shelf yesterday. It was in too good a shape to discard.
At least I didn't pick up any today while garage saleing...I grabbed two more turntables instead. :smoke:

Hey Ken,

If you come across an extra copy of Time Out, let me know (since you're giving them away). Going to Ann Arbor tomorrow.

Is this okay moderators?

Not a junkie, I can even bypass the used bins when I'm not in the right mood or lack the time to browse. I pick up the odd LP to replace what I've ruined earlier, or what I've missed out on if it's cheap. I have less than 100 LPs (and 600+ CDs).

I'm not a junkie in the sense that I have multiple copies. I'm still at the point where I want a single copy of something I've been looking for before I spend more money on something I already have. I think the only LP I have copies of is Stevie Wonder's Song in the Key of Life, and I've only bought 1 copy of it...I have no idea where the other 4? came from.

I have ~400 LPs and I'd say about 90% of them were purchased by me with the clear intention of "ooo, this is something I've been looking for to build my collection." I've yet to come across a bulk sale that has anything in that's worth taking all the other crap LPs along with it. I also don't have unlimited space and shelving so that's another factor.
