Are You Kidding Me !!!!!!!!!! Forte Upgrade

Yeah, i dont have the skills or the budget to start my own soundlab, trying to find a circuit that has already been vetted. Was hoping somebody had done a workingmans version of the SET12 that they were happy with.
 
before I made my LaScalus passive radiating LaScala clones, I used ALK Universals in an alignment that was effectively not unlike that of a Forte. it went rather well and I was satisfied with the results, even though I ultimately abandoned them for my full horn speakers.
 
SET12 just used the original circuit and bought more expensive replacement parts. This is a popular approach. If your budget is tight, there isn’t a lot you can do except replace your current capacitors with Daytons or Audyns.
 
Thx Dean, i didnt know the SET12 was the original circuit design. I have some budget, around $500usd. My options in 2024 seem to be: Crites f2 silver $350
f2 gold $500
Crites alk/uni $500


Wait for Crites new alk/forte 2 $?00


Wait til Sept when Deang can build
something. $?00

Since i am mounting the new x/os outboard, future mods could be easily auditioned, as long as they fit in the layout.
 
Trying to find a 12 ga air core for the woofer. I found a Goertz foil with a dcr of .21ohm The sledgehammer specd in the drawing is .16ohm. Is this close enough, or will it limit the woofer response?
 
They are spendy, but Solen has a 10 ga coil that is close to the sledgehammer dcr. Crites has auto formers, but not the same as specd is alk network.

I think im close to choosing some mid tier caps, but not sure about how to compensate for the resistance change caused by replacing the np lytics with film and foil.

In the same boat as you, waiting for things to settle down. Don't want to 100% DIY my own XO, people are either too busy, or they haven't come out yet for a ALK network. When it get it all sorted out, let us know what you did, and what you got.

Never seen any diagram for what SET12 did, or is he even around anymore?

You mean horns with bass reflex eh?
 
I will post updates Mike, but it will be a while before i have all the components piled up. I'm still recovering from an unplanned acquisition, a Jolida 3502P. I was planning on avoiding Chi-Fi altogether, but was overcome by my own damn cheepness : $ I consider it a mere test platform, a guinea pig to experiment with a "modern" SS rectified P/P amp, compared to my MA-230.

Crap.. do I have "DOWNGRADE-ITIS???
 
I notice there are some NP Electrolytics in the ALK cicuit. Would i have to compensate for the lost resistance if i swapped in film?foil caps?
