Attention Fairchild Freaks!

Well that was quick. No longer on the site. I noticed that the corner of the transformers were more square-ish. I recall these were more rounded. But, I could not confirm since it is gone. Oh well.
Yes the transformers on the 255 and 255a are squarish. It was the 260 and 275 that had the the rounded corners.

When I saw the 255 on USAudiomart I was thinking should I. But when I saw the poster (multichamp123) was a first time posting and joined on the same day the 255 was for sale (03.21.25), I was hesitant even for that price. Now on ebay, the poster, going by a different name (lastresortrecords), had history for positive sales. But knowing who I am, which is always thinking should I or not, the sale would have been done by another buyer. It moved quickly as noted by radioactive. Oh well, life goes on.

I believe he is a member here if I'm not mistaken and under that same name.

I figured it has been a while since any activity occurred in this posting so it was time. On the auction site is a pair of 260s. This guy has a few of these in past. I don't know if this is a reposting of the same pair. Anyway, I have no affiliation with these amps, but would sure love to hear what they can produce.

i cant seem to find them on ebay. This thread is already in dollar&sense so links are allowed. Can someone post a link to them?

yes that was far more reasonable price. Someone will definitely enjoy those.

I have both the Mc30 and the 255a - both restored. The Mc30 goes for more these days - at least the asking prices went to about double vs what I paid.
I think the 255a are the keepers, but it would a bit harder for me as I like the C20 Mcintosh preamp a bit better vs my pair of 245 FC preamps...
It is interesting though when you put them next to each other - the Mc 30 is comparatively massive vs the 255.
Yes the mc30's transformers are big ,They're more comparable to the 260 size wise.

"All driver tubes are vintage USA and tested, RCA 1614 outputs, RCA 5V4 rectifiers"
I wonder if this guy knows how to read..Sure all the tubes are metal but not all of them are 1614 .On the one amp I can clearly see a 6l6 and a1622 .the other amp I can make out only one tube and that one is actually a 1614.These tubes all have different operational specs as can be seen by my photos attached.Fairchild ran the plate voltage to 470 volts which is why any other tube besides the 1614 or 6l6gc should not be used.Even original McIntosh mc30's called for 1614 tubes and they have 440v on the plates..

I don't remember the initial asking price but it is $7200 now - did he increase the price? Maybe I don't remember correctly...

I'm curious as to where the collectable hierarchy is with the Fairchild amps?
255's, 260's 275? Not power output, but Rarity and Sound quality!
seems to me the 260's might be???
Thoughts;;;;

IMO, the 275 is the head of the pack.
It may be the head of the pack for scarcity but the original 260 with the is just as rare so i"ll call it a tie between those 2.
Then again you have the 260r which stood for revision. The revision swapped out the output tubes to el34 as im sure you know. that but im just pointing it out to others. With that said i have a pair of original G.E.C. KT77'S that i hope to fin d a matching pair someday and do that mod although i love my original swetlana 6l6gc .
The 260r pictures you find are crudely labeled and i doubt Fairchild was responsible for that.-
