Audiogon fails to impress

It no longer categorizes items after a search (nor does it list the category at all after searches). Fail. That was incredibly helpful if you like to search for particular brands and see what all is available.

I know what you mean, Chris. The old search feature was slick and even allow for searching by price range or zip code. Unless I missed something, none of that seems to be there anymore.

I had a few things I was going to list there but I think I'm going to wait until the dust settles a bit.

That's the only way I ever searched. Now I have to search for a brand, then go through every category, and wait for it to think about it. Did the people the redesigned the site, ever actually use it? It worked fine. There was nothing wrong with it.

For me, vinyl LP's were a big reason I visited and bought a boatload there. Now, if I click on LP's the website can't find 'em. After the 3rd try I went to search and typed in vinyl and got a hodgepodge of some records, some turntables, anything that had vinyl in it's description. Plus they were all over the place date-wise, couldn't tell today from last week new listings. What a rush to failure.:thumbsdn:

I agree, it's absolutely AWFUL. Can't find anything by searching by brand. And they are showing some ads on the side that I find "objectionable". Looks like I am done with Audiogon. Pity, I have been a member there a LONG time. Thank god for Bartertown!

****, I think I just bid on a 'Test Listing Please Ignore', hope I didn't pay too much.

Did you do BIN or make an offer?

I hope that the new site is still beta cause between broken links, nonworking search features, and non-functionality there are a lot of problems. Nice of them to make the site less desirable. Oh well, if it doesn't get better it will help me save some money...for spending in BT.

+1. I can't find stuff that I know I saw for sale just a couple of hours ago. If they don't fix this thing and restore basic functionality to some semblance of what it was, they will lose me (and probably many others) as a customer for sure. This is a classic example of the age-old adage "If it ain't broke, don't fix it."

Epic fail for sure :thumbsdn: I really liked the old search features, brand, zip, and so on. The way it is now blows big time. I'm sure you all have tried to sort by date only to get a listed all out of order still, can't even get a basic function correct. I'm sorry but the old site was just fine and a snap to find stuff. As a buyer I'm not very pleased, as a seller I'm just plain pissed. Can't even find my own listing, EPIC FAIL for sure :thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp::thmbsp:

First thing I noticed was the time left on the listings. Been a while since i listed an item, but I thought listings were 30 days... New listings say 16 days left... way to double your profits while making it harder for people to find what they are looking for so they have to do multiple listings... Another epic fail..

Glad I don't go there.

The most epic fail of a site upgrade was harmonycentral.

The forum (accapella.harmonycentral.com) was so unbelievably FUBAr'd that they actually did what the members asked (after a month or so) and reverted it back to vbulletin software, upgraded it and fixed it's problems.

When I saw the new (now gone) site I felt like I had been violated. It was literally disturbing. I've never visited as much as used to, since then.

But they left the main site with the new (crappy and proprietary) software. Which means that millions of direct search engine links to guitar and amp reviews were now dead. Way to shoot yourself in both kneecaps.

All of this was done because;
- they had an old outdated, patched up version of vbulletin, and were to cheap to fix it.
- they were too cheap to pay someone with a clue to fix it.
- they were not knowledgable about user interface issues, multiple platforms, and the classic consultant ripoff.
- they didn't ask their user base what they wanted.
- the owners of the site were the big musical internet dealers and wanted to add video reviews.

It was a classic epic fail. It's documented on sites all over the internet. It was fascinating yet painful to live thru.

Wow, it really is slow. And hard to navigate. And I can't find things as easily. And its counter-intuitive. So at least they're going with the flow of the rest of the internet.

:nono:As a design professional I would have to give the "new" site an F.:nono:

Completely confusing to use and they have ruined the search function.
(For example, what happened to the date posted, search by location, seller, etc)?:thumbsdn:

It's sort of like going into the garage only to discover someone removed all of the gauges and warning lights on the dashboard of you car and just left you with the steering wheel.

Or stole all the indicator lights and dial pointer from your 70's Marantz receiver. (Now where was aux again?)

What a shame. I used to enjoy using the site.
Probably won't go there much any longer.:no:

I'm betting there is a War Room filled with developers, with their laptops fixing things at a 100 MPH.

Empty pizza boxes, coffee cups and energy drinks laying around all over the place.

They are definitely having issues, but maybe after a few days it will all settle down.

Lets now add problems with signing in. Then go to the "contact us" and the e-mails listed bounce back if you send an e-mail. This happened to me as I was going to ask about the sign in problem and the fact that I cannot locate my listing.

I suspect there are two guys and a half-eaten pizza, confused as to why their 2 semesters at "really expensive web design school", that taught flair over functionality, didn't translate to the real world. I see them come and go by the dozen when overseeing digital projects at work. "Yeah, but it doesn't WORK"...."well it looks better"..."Nobody is using it because it doesn't work" "Yeah but you can click on words that highlight when you scroll over them"..

I think they may missed a few use cases when they were developing their testing plan.

I wonder how many times they've been asked if they can roll it back so far?

An effing mess.

A big step backwards in useability.

I at least hope there's an upside to the background functioning for them.

I was going to list a set of fairly hi-end speakers there today. I am not going to now. AK has the most user friendly, easy to navigate, audio site, by far! Don't change a thing....PLEASE!

Ugh. Not that I bought much from there but seriously bad move on their behalf. It's not even usable. A search for "Carver" brought up everything BUT carver products. It's sad to say but I think unless they fix it up, and quickly, that they've just taken the wind out of their sails.

Fueled by greed I'm sure.

This.

Their search engine is whacked. When the very term you are searching for doesn't even make it to the top of the search results, you know you're not doing something right.
