B&O Hojttaler ?

Just picked up a pair of B&O Hojttaler Type S speakers. Look like 60's era, are these early B&O speakers ?

Fantastic sounding speakers together with tube stuff for example with my receiver "Grand Prix Moderne" from 1961. They are also from that time. They are indeed very early B&O stereo speakers, my oldest ones are the Hojtaler "S 607" from 1959.

Well well well, confusion...!

You see the beoworld descripiton of TYPE S with a black and white picture of TYPE S 607, which I also have, take a look into my album!

I told beoworld the mistake once, they registered and said thanks but never corrected.

Took a pic with my phone and yes, these say Type S 607. Being 3-5 ohm, what could you run these with ?

You won`t believe it, but I hooked one of my TA 230`s (see avatar) on them although the rec got 8-16 ohms and the speakers 3-5 ohms. Doesen´t matter, I LOVE IT! Let me tell you that these speakers are the most rare stereo speakers of Bang&Olufsen. I have never seen in Europe another pair than mine.

He's using it so he must know.

Is there a chance that we can see the speakers inside. From what is on "beoworld" it seems to have oval speakers inside but I don't understand the details in the description.

Some more informations for you, Beatnik.

Originally in your S607 was a two-way bass-reflex system, comprising a woofer of Bang & Olufsen´s own production, the TV 160 KINO, that was heavily used in the years around 1960 for both TV´s and radios. This woofer was accompanied by an Elac TW 4/01 tweeter.

Your cabinets which are probably in teak, mine are brazilian rosewood, are in a pretty fine condition - even the cloth seem´s to be without sratches or such stuff. Do not dare to throw them away. You got the information about the original tweeters and woofers, perhaps one day you get them. Of course they will be hard to find but it is worth an effort.

Loved my old redlines. Very warm sounding with my sx 1010. Needed more room so I just purchased music hall marimba bookshelf. Wow, these little guys don't take a back seat. Best 300.00 speaker I ever heard.

Well that tweeter is definately a Goodmans, got a pair sat here not stunning bits of kit but good for a cone tweeter.

Nice eWave cabinets maybe? That upper slot might be a good spot for a waveguide.

I've attempted to read through that ewave thread, a page or two and my brain starts to hurt for some reason ?

I'm thinking about adapting in some decent drivers, but the cabinets aren't very beefy at all (look at my avatar, these aren't for me). If not, I'll just let them go to someone who would like some early B&O cabinets.

Found this thread today. Have a pair of Type S in the garage, inherited them years ago. Finally opened the back just today to find a similar disappointing situation with Radio Shack 6x9s with tons of foam rot, but the original ELAC tweeters. Oh well. I guess 15W max was widely ignored through the years!
Did you ever find a source for the Kino 160 TVs or similar?
