That would explain it. From a darkroom printing scenario it reminded me of print "burning" gone awry by some of my students or photo paper left out too long and unprotected. :D

I like the grain effect. Goes well with the subject and sky.
 
Some black and whites I have been working on. The dead snake shot is a very recent digital image and the second is a shot of Saguaro Lake taken with T-Max film on my 4x5 camera several years ago in October of 1997. Hey, I work slow sometimes.

Yeah, the water had some mild ripples as you can see towards the bottom that I believe had a lot to do with the softness of the cloud reflections in the water. It gives it a rather dreamy look to the whole scene. Rather surreal and calming at the same time.
