Bands With One Good Song

Interstate Love Song by Stone Temple Pilots
Kiss From A Rose by Seal
Seasons in the Abyss by Slayer

REALLY??? STP??? What about "creep" or "plush" the Acoustic version?

"Kiss from a rose" was the worst song on that album. Get a nice setup and listen to "don't cry"

Don't know slayer, so can't say anything there.

How 'bout Rick Ashley? Maybe I have ass for taste, but I like that song ... and, it's an interesting story how it came about. Kudos to him. Anyone ever see another example of that kinda voice emanating from that kinda person?

Isn't it Rick Astley? Or is it Ghastly?

'Wicked Game'?

that got the most airplay as far as I know.
I also recommend 'Blue Spanish Sky'

and 'Can't do a Thing (to Stop Me)'.

Yes, that was it. Thank you.

The other two, I dunno. They are good performances and examples of the genre, to be sure, and excellent showcases for Chris Isaac's talents, but as far as songs with that je ne sais quoi that both distinguish themselves from everything else and will truly survive the passage of time, I just don't know. The first (Spanish Sky), was on the same album, and so I've heard it a number of times, but it never seemed to have the same frisson as Wicked Game.

Yes, really. Interstate... is the only stp song I like. Most of their other songs are okay, but nothing to write home about.

Kiss... is the only song by Seal that I can tolerate at all and I have a pretty darn good sounding system. It might not impress you, but that's okay. It sounds like Paul Motion and co are playing right here in my music room right now.

I was shocked out of my gord when I heard "Seasons..." Wow! They actually have good song! (Be still, my heart) :music:

Ghastly is the correct answer. That video is so lame!

Plymouth Gin, motorcycles, coffee, and a M1911A1.

Probably the song and the video are indelibly intertwined in most people's minds, but I was talking about the song only (although there is an interesting story behind the video told by Rick Astley, but I can't remember it well enough to do it justice and can't find a link right now).

As long as the subject of this thread is going to be Rick Astley music videos, I would like to nominate The Cutest Girl Ever in a Music Video:

I can count on one hand the number of up tempo songs I like, and even to get to five, I have to include Handel's Water Music (separate movements) and stretch the meaning of "up tempo." (More if I include swing and big band.)

It may be that part of my appreciation for this song is the disconnect between the way Rick Astley looks and the way he sounds (sorta like the Minimus 7?).

"Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor

I loved this song when it hit the radio, bought the 45. When I got married, I found the LP in my wife's collection. She said the rest of the album sucked. I gave it a listen and she was right! :thumbsdn:

Moving Pictures. Their song "What About Me" was a minor hit in 1986 or 1987.

It was in 1982. I was 13 and for a while you couldn't get away from that song on the radio. They released one more single after that, but I can't remember what the name of it was.

I picked up a Vapors album based on the nostalgia for one song. As it turns out "Turning Japanese" does appear to be the only song worth anything.

Talk about a trip down memory lane. What is so interesting is so many of the mentioned artists have really good stuff nobody has heard. Look at Iron Butterfly and their LP In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida when you run into a record at the thrift store track #6 In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida is often totally trashed but in many cases the rest of the record is in a fairly good shape. I really enjoy track #1, Most Anything You Want

Iron Butterfly's Metamorphosis (1971) had at least two great songs hardly anyone has heard. Track #1; New Day, and track #2; Easy Rider (Let the Wind Pay the Way)

Another example is Sugarloaf. I have a personal connection with Green Eyed Lady I know the person who actually wrote the song; R.K. Lewis, a monster saxophonist. He had to leave the band shortly before Green Eyed Lady hit the charts because he wasn't making enough money with the band to pay the bills. The only credit he got was a cryptic note on the LP's back cover "Thanks RK"

On their LP Spaceship Earth (1971) there are 4 tracks, this whole album is good but these are my favorites,
#1 Spaceship Earth (could not find a playable example of this one)
#3 Rusty Cloud (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZHPIORx3Y_I&list=PL6913CB3E660A51BE)
#8 Woman (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HsWNqJgLTTI)
#9 Music Box (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wgl9bZfKdpU&list=PL6913CB3E660A51BE)

There are so many like this and it is fun to explore.

Whiter shade of pale - Procol Harum

Good thought.

In the same vein:

Smoke on the Water - Deep Purple (although it sounds a bit lugubrious to me now, I still like it enough to play it once or twice a year)

Wow, I know this is all very subjective but I'd hardly consider Procol Harum or Deep Purple bands with only one good song. Both put out a lot of great albums over the years with some excellent material (certainly better than the tunes mentioned IMO) and both bands have a history worth looking into a little further IMHO.
