Beatles mono box - 2nd run

Just got home, the set is in my hot little hands. I haven't opened the box yet, must put on a nice cup of coffee and deal with the dogs first. I'm jazzed

I ordered my set at $219 through HMV about 6 weeks ago. When I was paying for it the clerk told me that the price is now $289 if it wasn't pre-ordered at the lower price. Whew!

Seven hour road trip today from Newport to Gettysburg with my daughter (college visitation trip). I'd ripped my mono box set to my iPod and we took advantage of the uninterrupted road time to listen to a number of the albums.

They sound superb, even on a car stereo. Something else! :D

Mine was estimated to arrive on Monday, but it was on the doorstep when I arrived home yesterday afternoon! Also received a shipment from Bob Crites for the Klipsch Fortes, so USPS was very kind to me yesterday.:music:

I've listened to the White Album, Rubber Soul and the Mono Masters sets so far. Wonderful stuff. I think the 2nd round of Mono boxes are the keepers. :D

I'd heard Komm, Gib Mir Deine Hand before (isn't it on the Something New, Something New US release? Edit: just checked my copy - yep it's there), but had never heard She Loves You in German -very interesting.

I guess their years spent entertaining the young frauleins when they weren't on stage at the Kaiser Keller probably helped with the German language. :naughty:

How are you all storing the CDs?

The CDs come with very nice packaging. The discs themselves are in little poly innersleeves, and then there are reproduction miniature cardstock innersleeves as well. It's funny, by packaging them like LPs that way, I find myself handling the discs as gently as I would an actual LP. I put the discs back in the poly sleeves and place them in their jackets with the opening away from the jacket opening to keep out dust. I haven't actually used the reproduction innersleeves.

What are all of you doing?

I tucked my CDs into their poly innersleeves, then tucked those into the repro paper sleeves.

Yep, I'm putting the CDs back into the poly sleeves, and leaving the paper replica sleeves where they are. Right now, I'm also keeping & reusing the outer plastic sleeve for each CD case - we'll see how long that lasts.

Interesting to see replica stuff in miniature in the box set - nice but they certainly don't make me want to toss my LPs. The music is the star here for me.

I think these early 2nd production runs are hot stampers.

I agree that the Beatles mono set is amazing. I got freaked out by the end of sgt. pepper with the paper rustling sound like it was in the middle of the room.

Just pulled mine out of the mailbox. Surprised to see the box was shipped from Amazon inside a padded envelope instead of bubble wrapped inside a box. That's a first for me from them. Thankfully, no damage. Let the auditions between the mono box and stereo box begin... where to start? Pepper.

The packaging on these monos are superb, right down to the old school album folds on the original UK releases! Much different than the stereo remastered CDs and an exact replica of the LPs! I had no idea! I had a good laugh when I pulled the CD out of the jacket and it was in an inner sleeve. How cool is that!

BTW, the white box looks lovely displayed next to the larger black stereo box on the end table in the living room. :D

Listening to A Hard Day's Night right now. This is a very impressive set. The CD sounds great.

Do the second run discs have serial numbers? For that matter did the first set? Mine is on order from Amazon.ca, they're not even in stock yet.
