Best Cart for Technics SL-M1 P-Mount

For those of you who have the ADC PSX-30/40 carts, you'd better hurry. Needledaddy1 only has three left...after I placed my order.

The same would go for the PSX-10, 20 and 25, not to mention the SER-I, II, III, and IV. All these use the same body.

Received my RPSX-30 replacement stylus in the Pfanstiehl generic PSX-10 "Made in Switzerland" packaging. I wonder if that's how these got offered so cheaply. It's indeed the genuine article.

Got mine last week and indeed it is the RPSX-30 packaged as the PSX-10. These won't last long once the word is out.

I have been following this thread as I have several p-mount cartridges including this ADC cartridge. I have two replacement styluses for this cartridge (ser III and a white one with no writing) but I do not know how many hours they have been used. You guys have convinced me to pony up $25 for this ND1 RPSX-30.

I already had a couple, but decided that I wanted to make sure that I didn't find myself without a replacement sometime down the road. With my luck, I'd wear out the last one just as the available supply ran out.

Grado still makes P-mount carts.
Pick up one of the lesser expensive Blue carts and drop the $150 for the Grado 8MZ needle upgrade.
It's the best budget combination i've heard so far

Agree. Call Needle Doctor and they'll work out special pricing to replace the standard stylus for the 8MZ

I think Grado P Mounts generally sound dull in my Technics P Mount turntable, too.

I'm glad to know I'm not the only one who feels this way. Even with the 8MZ stylus, I'm not impressed.

Glad I grabbed a couple while the price was right. Have not opened the package but like others mine is labeled on the package for a 10 but the stylus housing states 30. Any chance the stylus is marked incorrectly and the box correct? I can't understand why ND1 is/was charging the rate he was with the knowledge he has...

I even emailed Kevin at KAB to see if he'd have the inclination to develop a fluid damper for Technics P Mount turntables since Grado is the only manufacturer that I can think of that still markets a full line of P Mount cartridges. If only they didn't sound dull in the most popular brand of P Mount turntables, they'd get a lot more recommendations.

This might be a very good thing, but I'm still too new at the hobby to know. What I do know is that I've got a Grado G1 cartridge that I use on a Marantz 6300 - with the 8MZ stylus. Even though my Technics SL-MA1 should blow the 6300 out of the water, the old Marantz/G1/8MZ combo sounds better than the MA1/Grado Blue/8MZ combo. Go figure...

I don't feel that I'm exaggerating to say that the ZT+ was a bit "less dull" than the standard Grado Prestige fare in the SL-1200. When I installed the fluid damper, the ZT+ sounded as good, perhaps even better, than the ADC PSX-40, which is really hard to beat--sounds a lot like my Grace F-9E.

But, when I tried the fluid damper with my Prestige Blue, the effect of the fluid damper was not as dramatic. I'm not sure why, but it might be because the Prestige Blue is a P Mount in an 1/2" adapter. I'm not sure. But I do have a Prestige Green 1/2" that I have yet to try with the fluid damper. Once I get to it, I'll report back. The ZT+ sounds like a totally different cartridge after the fluid damper.

The published specifications for the Prestige series says they weigh 5.5 grams, but in my experience, the p-mount versions match the T4P standard of 6.0 grams. They will work at the T4P standard tracking force of 1.25 grams, but work better at 1.5 grams. Some T4P turntables like the SL-M1 allow for the tracking force to be raised to 1.5 grams, but others do not.

If you have a loupe, it would be easy to find out. The 10 is a conical and the 30 is elliptical. It's pretty easy to see the facets on an elliptical stylus. Apart from that, the stylus grip on the 10 is blue.
