Best Live Recordings...

I did a search to make sure that I wasn't duplicating any threads, but if I have...apologies.

I will add to this list and ask that others do as well, but here's a quick short-list of what I think are some of the best live recordings that I have had the pleasure to hear (sound, material, quality, etc.). In no particular order:

Frank Sinatra at the Sands (Count Basie Orchestra with Quincy Jones arrangements)
Genesis - Seconds Out
Little Feat - Waiting for Columbus
Stan Getz et al - Getz A Go Go
Ella Fitzgerald - Live in Rome
Allan Holdsworth - All Night Wrong

Now...to go back through my recordings for more!

My top three:
1) Toto - Live In Amsterdam
2) Scorpions - Acoustica
3) Eagles - Hell Freezes Over

Cream - Live at Royal Albert Hall.
(DVD, but playback through your stereo is unbelievable)

Eric Clapton was superb!

In no particular order

Deep Purple: Made in Japan (vinyl)
Supertramp: Paris (vinyl)
Dire Straits: On the night (cd)
Eva Cassidy: Live at blues alley (cd)
The Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East (cd Deluxe Edition)

Boz Scaggs recent live recording is excellent. Both the CD and DVD are very clean recordings that like to be played loud.

Oh yes, please do include DVDs of concerts...

Oh yes, oh yes...

The wonderful world of concert DVDs have allowed me to re-live those glorious concerts of the 1970s and to introduce some bands to our teenagers (and many 70s band are HOT these days).

Steve Hackett's recent "Once Above a Time" is a great electric concert of his current material along with a wonderful live version of "Blood on the Rooftops" by that band beginning the letter "G" as is the acoustic "Hungarian Horizons".

The CDs of both are pretty great too.

More to follow...

I got the 4 CD set from the library and ripped that and the sound quality is quite good - considering. It includes the entire sets of Hendrix, the Who, Airplane and a bunch of others. The sets aren't long but just long enough to chew on.

I would also have to nominate The Pretenders DVD recorded in 2003 in LA. I recently purchased this DVD and the sound is awesome and the video is great.

Although I haven't listened to it in a while, I have to say that Bob Marley Live! is one of my favorite live recordings. Also Peter Tosh Captured Live is great as well. I think I'm going to have to pull those out and listen to them tonight when I get home!

Another one of my all-time favorites (that I haven't listened to in a while) is the Grateful Dead Europe '72.

I also have some legal live concert recordings (bootlegs from bands who allow taping of their concerts) that surpass anything I've ever purchased commercially.

Peter Frampton's Come Alive double album sold 25+ million copies. It was a well made LP, too, great sound. Frampton gave a great performance. I'm playing Frampton as I type.

Since we are including DVD's check out the Brian Setzer Orchestra Live in Japan. BSO's combination of rockabilly guitar and swing band flat out rocks. It also includes a DTS track for listening to multichannel and the video is great to watch. You can tell Brian and his band are having a lot of fun at this concert. :thmbsp:

While on vacation I picked up the LP Mike Oldfield "Airborn" which is a double LP with 1 album being studio (nothing to write home about) and an additional LP that is live. Side 3 features Tubular bells live and is incredible, perhaps the best fidelity I have ever heard for a large live show recording.
