You can't do that on stage anymore Disk II by Frank Zappa.

(Also, Zappa used to take live takes in intersperse then into studio tracks too, like in Inca Road from One Size Fits All. And the whole YCDTOSA box set is good too)...

I completely agree with "Waiting For Columbus" by Little Feat!
Paul McCartney's "Unplugged, The Official Bootleg" was orginally hard to get, but Amazon carries it now. He plays some Beatles tunes. This is the concert that started MTV's Unplugged series.
Both Nirvanna and Neil Young's Unplugged discs are great as well.
Neil's "Live at Massey Hall" is a great 1971 recording.
His "Heart of Gold" movie on DVD is beyond great...you'll want to stand up and applaud at the end.

I saw him many years ago. His band Grin was backing up Edgar Winter. He would run across the stage playing lead. Jump on a small angled trampoline and turn a flip while still playing. Caught everyone in the arena off guard. Nils is great.
 
For me, one of the best live sound recordings and the audiance was absolutly quiet was Joe Jackson- "Big Word". Really fantastic!:yes:

Best Live Albums..

My #1 goes to Gentle Giant- Playing the Fool- 2 record set in vinyl. # 2 has to be Live at Leeds..Also like Dead Reckoning (acoustic Dead) & many others..
 
Alison Krauss and Union Station, Live. Recorded at the Louisville Palace, the interaction with the audience and between band members becomes a driving force behind this very solid performance... give a listen to Dan Tyminski singing "I Am a Man Of Constant Sorrow". I believe you can hear a smile in his rendition of this Dick Burnett classic from 1913. Just a "good fun" album :)

Steely Dan.."Alive in America" The reworked version of "Reeling in the Years" takes a song I didn't know if I EVER wanted to hear again (and I'm a way-gone DanFan) and turns it right around. Meticulously recorded, of course.

Stones..."Get Yer Ya-Yas Out" Captures the World's Greatest Rock n Roll band at the height of their powers. Well-recorded for the time, too.

Allman Bros.."Live at the Fillmore East" No further comment needed here.

And, once again, Little Feat "Waiting for Columbus" Could be the best live set EVER. After re-TTing my system, this has gotten repeated play. And, for good reason...I was perusing the liner notes and saw that the estimable George Massenburg engineered. Ah-hah! So THAT's why! What an accurate representation of a live show. Sad I never saw the Feat live...but I have the vinyl.

They were recently on Austin City Limits- totall kicked butt!:yes:

Which one? 1968 Farewell, or Reunion 200(?)? Both are very good in thier own way. One thing for certain, Eric Clapton IS superb still. So is Jack and Ginger! I will have to ad that the energy of times past is somewhat subdued in the new performance, not as much the band as the audience and they work hand in hand.

In the 1968 video you see people going plum nuts dancing, headbanging (yes headbanging) or whatnot.:music: Now you have a very orderly crowd sitting down, both young and old, politely clapping after each number like in church. I wonder if London has Gestapo security running around everywhere these days as in America making sure nobody lights a cigarette, much less anything else.....:smoke:
