Very very cool. Now I gotta find something it'll fit. BTW, my second post was all new equipment except for the Scott.
As for looks - the knobs are a major part of it - the concept/design of the Sansui AU-222/555/777/999 series is very very high on my vintage gear top model list. The same goes for the same series tuners too!
Black faceplates look so much nicer to me with 'dashboard jewelry' like that. Very sharp.
One of my old Zeniths is (sadly) headed for the landfill. Wonder what I should salvage first.

"In praise of vanished knobs" — almost all the great knobs shown here, little works of art, are long gone. You can't buy a decent knob these days, you have to borrow them from old gear, which means the old gear must be effed beyond repair. Twenty years ago I combed the stores here in LA and even back then only found a few beauties, and never enough of them to equip a complete amp or preamp. Even online the pickings are slim — though Nixxuz (#20) found two lovelies.

Yes! And they had the quasi-scientific calibrated look, which I always like. 'Normal' knobs resemble drawer-pulls or doorknobs, no sex appeal in that...

So far not a single chicken head to be seen in this thread.
The DC-300a I bought had those new fangled silver centered knobs and just didn't look right. I bought a set of the big honking black knobs with the white line to make the amp look the way it was supposed to. Google has images of all the crown dc300a knobs
Nothing bold there. Seems when there is a question about anything on ak as to what is best the floodgates open for each person to post their own chunk of gear. I love the ones where there are discussions of the best of something and the BOTL units are frequently mentioned. Nothing wrong with liking your own gear.
These Kenwood knobs are what came to mind for me. Nice machined metal knobs with that special added index on them. Great quality.

When I see gear in junk piles I determine the personal value by the quality of the knobs, figuring at the least they will work. Here are a couple repurposed from a toasted Yamaha CR700.

Actually the post prior to the mention of the Luxman probably. jogged your memory about the line of gear that actually protects the knobs when the unit is off. Odd feature. But I do have an RX-103 with remote.Heh...heh...he said...."suckface".
