Best Looking Motorcycle - 70's

280px-1971-BSA-B50T-Victor-Trail-Silver-Black-Red-483-0.jpg

You're right "tons of fun" ....... I rode one of those back and forth to college in the early '70s.

I rode mine to college, too, even though the state had temporarily retired my driver's license...fortunately, train tracks from my house to campus were "Victor 500 friendly." ;)

There used to be one around my town which I lived in all my life now , with Dunstall exhaust . Didn't it sound great At the end of the 70's also was a kawasaki 900 with a turbo fitted There was no wastegate fitted and by goodness didn't it shift. But the CBX wins my vote

i had one of those it sounded so bad at 90mph i backed off some . was trying for 115mph which it should have no problem .. friend of a friend that raced them took it out and said no problem with it thats how they are ..needless to i sold it soon after .

I put big hot ignition coils and expansion chambers on mine- it would do 105. Agreed they are best at lower speeds.

Out here we used to have a local scrambles event every summer at a buddies farm. There were a couple of old 441 Victor Specials (with equally antiquated operators) making the modern competition iron look pretty lethargic by comparison. When you've got torque, who gives a s**t about weight or horsepower..........

Nothing quite rattles your fillings like a big single on an open pipe (well, with a spark arrestor, hee hee) being ridden in angero_O

I'm 8.5 miles from the office and I can make my way without highway and live at the north end of the Pine Barons so there are plenty of sandy dirt roads.
.
Back in the day, I spent a fair amount of time zipping up and down Routes 539 & 530 (my parents lived in Beachwood, my Aunt in Whiting), so it`s possible that our paths may have crossed on those back roads....Viva los Pineys ! :-)

Bought one of these in 1980 - same colour scheme - having looked at it for over a year. Felt guilty about it thinking the money should have gone into the mortgage or something. Lovely bike but handled like a camel. Because I then worked overseas it was used more by my brother than me but I enjoyed it when home. Traded it in for a GPZ900 in '85, that was a step change..

I spoke with a man with a bike I remarked "what a machine it looked" I asked what it was, He said its a VMax He said he cant ever use it to its full capability anywhere because of it has no fairing.

You were saying Doug about owing a CBX Did you find you were limited in going over 100mph because there was no fairing. I was reminded after posting the pic that there was also a CBX in Town with piper exhaust system The bike after a certain amount of revs would Scream The sound was quite something.

making me wonder why cut off point pushing a ton ?

Meh,all you guys with your ''petite'' little Japanese two-stroke dirt bikes. I have one of these buried in the garage awaiting a rebuild; If you think you're a trail-basher,try doing it on this: 1960 Matchless G80 TCS

Taking a different path. eh?

Fond memories of doing the trails on a Triumph Trophy kitted out with high pipes and knobbies.

RAP A RAP RAP RAP!!

Finally dropped that beast into a lake. Diver friend went down to look for it, but best he figured, it had buried itself in silt.

But ya know, they say on a full moon, if you listen close, you can still hear those TT pipes rapping away down below ... <G>

This is not my picture but my VT-700 looked identical. Honda made these Shadows for a few years to get around the stiffer import tariff on bikes above 700 cc. If I'm not mistaken HD filed a lawsuit against Honda stating the Shadows looked too much like their bikes but I don't see it?

That was probably AMF that filed suit, remember, they made bowling balls.
LMAO.

No, it was Harley-Harley, iirc. AMF previously had it's hands full rescuing HD with funding and replacing worn out machine tooling. Harley-Harley also tried to copyright it's single crankpin V-twin exhaust note.
I owned some HD, including AMF period bikes. They were all ok for what they honestly were.
