I've spent the last week or so listening to various LP's, CD's and radio. Still currently using my Sansui 9090 as my single source of power which seems quite sufficient (it isn't really small after all).
A disclaimer before I go on. I have by no means a "trained ear", so what I describe is based on my own personal experiences and thoughts.
Clarity and the "fill the room" soundstage seem to be the hallmark of these speakers. They do not hide anything, so what I have found with these, like no others, is that I immediately notice if a piece of music was well produced.... or not. Since they image so well, it becomes glaringly clear the difference in how each piece of music is recorded. When done well, I hear and feel the music like I've never experienced, but, put on something with less attention to detail and that sense of "wow" doesn't quite happen.
This tends to lend itself to music genres overall. Heavy Rock, Pop or Techno music need not apply (there are exceptions, of course), they simply are best played on speakers that are not so accurate and are best played at higher volumes. This is not really a surprise having already experienced the Model 5's.
Contrast that by putting on some Jazz, Blues or Classical and I have to honestly say it comes alive and I just giggle at what music fills the room. My musical tastes, by the way, have always been cemented in 70's Rock as a foundation, but I have to admit, with these speakers, I can't wait to find more Jazz/Blues. I've really enjoyed any acoustical music that was well done. Been spending a lot of time with Ray Charles lately.
