Blocking members...

So, as another got added to my block list, a question about blocking arose... Is there any way to completely block? Such as, threads started by these members won't even show up in the forums.

I'm curious - what's the difference between blocking someone, and just ignoring their posts?

They can't send you PM's or emails, for one thing. I just looked it up, didn't know either. :stupid:

.....as things are now, if you put someone on ignore, you will still see the threads they start, and all the responses, but not their posts.....

I would guess it's simply a feature of vbulletin that's available if you want to use it.

If you ran into a real whack job, it might be handy to be able to block PMs and emails. I've never had occasion to do that, mind you.

I blocked a senior "well respected" member. The *all audio not attitude* mantra seemed not apply to him. I like to read the threads, just not his douche bag answers.

The ignore list is supposed to do that, as I understand it.

No, one still sees the posts, just not the content. New threads are, I think, seen, too -- but hovering over the link won't show a preview of the content.

That said -- I guess I don't know whether any of the couple of lunkheads I have on ignore ever actually start threads or just react to others... so there may be a sort of tautology operating there.

Think of it like fine tuning your experience through the "member genome project". :thmbsp: If it will always display threads and posts then I suppose it's pointless. Was just hoping to streamline my Barter Town experience by getting rid of the threads from the people I would never do business with. People who I feel do not fit in with the Karma aspect of the site. Removing clutter if you will. Moot point now it seems...

Why would you want to 'block' or 'ignore' anyone? - just don't read their posts?

I can think of some reasons there are 2 or 3 AKers on my ignore list. I simply don't need to see any of their posts and their avatars and sigs I have no need to see.

Anyone who has HALF a brain will have me on "Ignore"... Anyone who has 3/4 of a brain will have me on "Block"...

I just do the "don't read their posts" thing. Works pretty well although sometimes I fall off the wagon and read one anyway. Then, I re-remember why I don't read their posts.

Sort of works.
