Well, a little has changed since 2009, so since this thread has been exhumed every so often ... have 3 Blu-ray players now, one Oppo mainly for CD playback. Don’t buy a lot of movies now, but Blu-ray when I do. Like a few posts ago, I’m happy enough with 1080p ... my old eyes can’t take full advantage of 4K let alone 8k. Have changed houses a couple times since I had my higher end home theater, but I am about to set up a small one to take advantage of the newer multichannel formats.

BluRay movies/select TV series purchased where possible, if not released on BR, then it`s the DVD version, if a desirable movie..

If the desired movie was previously not released on BluRay then becomes available later, then I purchase it.

Since I don`t/won`t watch any other TV source for my nightly entertainment, it`s either a selected BluRay, or DVD disc for the evening..
Probably over ~1,200 movies, or select complete TV series episodes, concerts, been purchasing/collecting since 2010.

All my house`s 5 room`s flat screen TV`s are 1080P rated and fed from my master signal A/V living room`s rack, with the living room`s Sony digital projector a 4K model shining on a 120" screen, all display devices are fed from my rack`s OPPO UDP-203 universal player, with a backup one.

And I wouldn`t want/have it any other way.

Ciao

All my tvs are 1080p. My projector for movies on my home theater in the basement is 1080i? I have four blu ray players in the house on various tvs. I get my movies free from the library to borrow. Haven't gone to a movie theater in years. Waiting for a tv to fail (some going over 10 years) to get a 4k tv. No interest in oled even if pic looks really good. I also see way too many late model flat screens in the recycle center. Would not buy a samsung.

I have bluray on my PC, and each of my other tvs but the oldest is 10 years and the newest is 1 year. They are downward compatible so they play dvds also. I have some movies but more concerts. It won't be long but they'll be obsolete also. They probably move to streaming or playing your copies in the Cloud.

I have a lot of dvd and blu ray concerts that I play through a blu ray and either watch on a projector or tv. Sound goes through how theater. I use it when i ride my exercise bike as it makes the time go faster and less boring. Can't watch a movie doing this but concerts are ideal.

I also use a blu ray player that is old enough to have rca and hdmi outputs. rca goes to luxman and klh six speakers, the hdmi goes to tv and receiver. Component output goes to projector which doesn't have hdmi inputs. Makes this a very flexible blu ray player instead of multiple components.

My first BluRay player, which is a 12 yr old & still operating, but not in current use Sony and has the same multiple type video outputs & analog audio outputs as well, simplynuts. :beerchug:

I have been down these format choices for years. I usually do not go for the newest till it’s been out for a couple of years. I still have and use 4 laser disc players 3 higher end DVD players and 2 Blu-ray players. I have some real nice TT’s too but find when I sit down to listen the visual stimulation keeps me more focused and involved. I watch lots of concerts and like most of them.

I've recently upgraded my bluray and dvd player from ps3/xbox to Pioneer BDP-05fd and Oppo 971h. It's kind of sad such high quality built devices will be a thing of the past. I doubt any streaming device will ever be built to these standards again.

I have somewhere around 14 Blu ray players now, all collected from Thrift Stores for $20 or less, most are 2012 models or prior so they have analog outputs I can use with my vintage sets. I do have a couple newer cheap Sylvania’s, only because they could be made region free (on DVD only) with a few clicks of the remote.

I have Sony’s first U.S. model, $1000 new, paid $15, it’s a Tank, and a beautiful piece of gear, makes a great picture, but you can make Popcorn and snacks while it loads.

I’ve been thinking about getting a 4K player because there are some movies on the format I’d like to have, might as well get them since my 2k Plasma won’t live forever, (or maybe it will with the amount of use it gets?)

I still buy standard DVDs if that’s the only option, but it has to be something I really need to complete a collection.

Blue Ray never caught on in this household. We do have one player but only a handful of blu ray discs. All others are standard DVDs. And honestly most of those are collecting dust these days.

Mostly streaming for movies and such is the norm around here now. Works for me.

I started my 4k movie collection from thrift store purchases when I got one of the last of the Oppo Universal 4k players (mainly for the decent multichannel analog outputs). The 4k movies still look pretty good on 1080p plasma. I also have two other Oppo Universal players and $10 Sony Blu-ray thrift store purchase. I gave up DVD playback a long time ago and currently concentrating on finding Blu-ray gems in the thrift stores.

3 OPPO players ( BDP-103 & 2 UDP -203s, plus one Sony (my first BR player, circa 2009). Even has Component (RGB) output as well as HDMI.

And around 5 or 6 desk top tower type internal mounting R/W type optical drives, some installed, and a few used externally, via USB to SATA adaptor for burning/ripping.

And a butt load of BR movies that are still increasing monthly..
DVDs purchased when the desired movie isn`t available on BR, though I able to run/watch Region 2~3 as well as 1, via a dongle plugged in to the OPPO with it`s remote control buttons manipulation on startup..

BR/DVD is my only source of video evening`s viewing every night..

Just received a combination of 12 BR/DVDs yesterday to add to my large and growing collection of optical CD/BR/DVD media.

I bought one. I may have even responded to this thread some pages back. But like the player, this thread has become just something that's "there." I took it up to my bedroom to use the Netflix feature because my Tivo broke. And now that the Tivo is working again, it just sits there gathering dust and probably using 30 cents of standby power a month. I don't even have any 4K TVs yet.
