On my third BR player...a Panasonic.

Don't view as much DVD's anymore, but with the maj of really poor offerings out there, like a lot of the NETFLIX, no name actors/low budget efforts...I might be going back to this disc format!

DVD's like CD's are at a low right now, save the pawn/garage sale events. But, have heard others thinking about picking up CD's, and sidestepping what's offered in the way of material from the different video companies and their in house movies/TV series.

Then too, some past greats movies/TV series, just can't be found of the same calibre in today's market! :bigok:

Q

Streaming video typically has lossy audio tracks significantly inferior to that of most Blu-ray releases. Blu-ray will continue to be at least a niche market for anyone with a decent audio system.

Depends on the thrift stores. Some don't even differentiate between DVDs and Blu-rays typically charging $2 each. I've even picked some $1 blu-rays during half price sales. I used to go to Half Price books for my Blu-ray fix but thrift stores offer better value, if not nearly as good for variety. Estate sales sometimes have decent offerings but I have to wait for the last day when everything is 50-75% off.

Not here, they're not. DVDs are $2 or $3+. GW wants $6 a piece for BRs. SA is about the same, or more.

SA actually seals CDs in little plastic baggies and charges $3 a piece for crap like 101 strings, and more for anything fit to listen to.

I've picked these up the last few weeks at GW for 2 bucks each, they are getting stupid here now on collectibles like cups and game systems since they just started barcode tags.

Theres a pawn down the road from me that does 3 bucks on blurays.

My blu-ray player has been back in its box in a closet since our last move eight years ago. Sold all our optical discs in the retirement downsize and streaming everything through Roku boxes now.

I'll give you $10 for it. :)

Anyone who lives close enough to me to come pick it up can have it free. If not for the pandemic I'd offer to ship it for cost, but the UPS store is not on my list of essential destinations.

I have several blu ray on several systems in the house. My basement unit is hooked up to play through a home theater , a projector or dedicated stereo system for music. I use all the outputs to use this way. Newer units only have optic and hdmi outputs.

forgot it also sends video to an oled tv.

I just got back from my Value Village, where I found a very good condition Sony BDP-S500 player. I tested it out at the store, and all played well. It came with the power cord and remote. A few years ago, I got rid of my Sony Blu Ray Player. I find them slow, and I find myself forced to view things I didn't have to view in my older DVD players. But this one looked really nice, played both Blu Ray and DVD in the store, and was $12.99. I thought it was worth taking a chance on it. It replaces a Samsung DVD player with HDMI I have that resets intermittently and then continues from where it was. Just put it in and so far so good. I'm happy!

Cool! Yes, I used to work in Kanata on March Road. We found some decent stuff in Stittsville earlier in the week. I found the Sony in Barhaven. I also have an Oppo(not sure what) with no remote I got on Bank street.

During COVID, I picked up a Sony XBR 65A9G, Marantz 8802a, Sunfire True Subwoofer Super Junior and 5 channels of JBL LSR monitors to compliment my 4410 Studio Monitors. I have a Sony UBP-X800M2 UHD Blu-Ray player to feed the beast. I keep an eye out for discounted 4k UHD BR discs - the system is glorious!! Streaming is fantastic through my NVidia Shield Pro, but the physical format still rules.-

How do you like your 8802a? I ask because I just bought one from A Gon

We just recently replaced our 55" non HD tv with a new Sony 75" 4K and a Panasonic 4K player. 4K movies are stunning and regular blu-rays look better. Been replacing my favorite blu-ray movies with the 4K versions.
