Bolivar Model 64 Speakers

I picked up a pair of Bolivar Model 64 speakers at an estate sale. They were build by the same project team that built the JBL L100. Old AK posts show there is some love for them.

Any idea on fairfullsizeoutput_2a38.jpeg fullsizeoutput_2a37.jpeg IMG_3678.JPG fullsizeoutput_2a39.jpeg value?

Refoam and get another phenalic ring Tweeter and I believe that you will be liking those Speakers...
They look well designed and built

I have a set that I tried to sell and couldnt get a bite at $50. I still have them and they sounded good untill one woofer was damaged.

Value is in the eye of the beholder.
The cabinets look solid, the veneer looks attractive (It is veneer, not contact paper, right?)
the grill cloth is stained, Tweeters are pushed in, and the woofers need work before they can be played.
Plus, they are second line JBL product, (no visible JBL logos anywhere, right?)
which is sometimes good and sometimes not good if they are not recognized.

Flipping is always a risky business -
sometimes you eat the bear, and sometimes the bear eats you.

I don't have much in these and only bought them after seeing some postive comments about the JBL connection. The twitters look fine except for the dust cap on one. I really want to hear these before I pass them on, so I'll probalby order the refoam kit, if I can find the right kit.

I re-foamed mine that I had since new. Great sounding punchy 10s in a big solid cabinet. Mids and tweets decent. Great crossover balance and balanced sound for the $$. Can't get anything for them, but great compliments on the sound.

It was about 5 years ago I’ll do some digging to see if I have a receipt. I thought it was simply speakers or an eBay source.

I don't know that he has that model, but a good resource for speaker surrounds and things JBL is Rick Cobb.
I've bought probably 2 dozen pairs of surrounds from him over the years, even some oddballs like the midWoofer in a pair of L212s
(JBL 2108/112A driver)

Tell him what you've got - parts number of the back of the drivers are helpful. Who knows?

Email sent to Rick Cobb.

Midwest speaker said if I can provide the proper measurements they can probalby assist. But I'm not really trusting my measuringIMG_3728.JPG IMG_3729.JPG IMG_3730.JPG IMG_3731.JPG IMG_3732.JPG IMG_3733.JPG IMG_3734.JPG skills...

A bit more information. The woofers are stamped with 13002-001 671TNB

Rick will need the same measurements:

Inner diam. of the metal basket/flange. That's the max diam of the surround. Visible in your pic, the flange next to the screw hole.
Cone diam. - of the cone itself.
Attachment Type - Clearly these have a 'slanted' attachment, i.e. the cone edge is slanted and not flattened out.
If there is no sign of the original surround you can't get the size of the 'roll' and he'll have to guess at that. If you can find a pic anywhere of the woofer with original surround that would help.
I don't think they were inverted surrounds.

I sent him the measurements. Debating if I want to spend money on these but I sure would like to at least hear them once.

I ordered these from Rick Cobb and they fit great.

I’ll fire them up after they have cured overnight.

Foam surround dimensions - p/n #610-565
Inside diameter: (edge to edge) 7-1/8"
Outside diameter: (edge to edge) 9-11/16"
Inside attachment lip: 5/16" (angle attachment lip)
Outside attachment lip: 7/16"
Roll: 5/8"
Cone diameter: 7-1/2" ~ 7-5/8"

Thanks for posting info.
Just picked up a pair, but one sounds like voice coil rubbing. Foams look new, so don't know if
they installed wrong. May give it a shot and order new and try myself to see if it fixes.
thanks again

Try flipping the offending woofer 180 degrees (upside down) and see if it makes any difference. If it's just barely rubbing sometimes gravity will give you an assist.

Even laying flat, when you push with your finger there is a light rubbing (scratchy) sound, so
I assume it is the voice coil. I truly don't know what a rubbing voice coil is suppose to sound like,
but I guess that is it? Hate to tear apart, but I guess that is the only way to see what's up.

My pair of freshly refoamed model 64 are up and running and report is they sound great!

The tweeter with the pushed indust cap works just fine so I’m not going to touch it.

Also cleaned up the stained grills with a little scrubbing bubbles. One of my go to mild cleaners.

So glad I took the leap and grabbed them! The build quality was evident so I grabbed them without any prior knowledge of them.

Shoot me a PM if you are a Bolivar collector.
