Bose 901 Equalizer problems!

Im confused by what you mean by source? I could maybe try a rca to headphone Jack and use my phone for a source??? And can you explain better how the connection process? Am I connecting the source to the equalizer or receiver? Because the turntable obviously doesn't connect to the equalizer.

CD player output > 901 EQ amplifier input
901 EQ amplifier output > receiver CD input

Or, yes, you could use your phone instead of the CD player if you have the headphone jack / RCA cable.

Also. Why do I connect cd output to bose equalizer? My turntable isn't going through a equalizer?

Because this is just a test/double-check to see if the EQ is passing signal. The CD player or phone outputs a signal level similar to what normally passes through the EQ. A turntable does not provide that similar type of signal

Do you get sound if you play a CD or the phone (with, of course, the applicable input selected on the receiver)?

I hate to ask again but, just to be sure, the Bose 901 EQ is plugged in and power light showing through all of this testing, right?

No sound. It was an old cd player. Not positive If it works not. But I cannot find my rca to head Jack rn.
 
Where are you located? Maybe an AK'r who lives close by might be willing to help you out. :beerchug:

It's kinda hard to diagnose over the internet especially if you are not too familiar with the audio lingo, but I think you really are getting most of the jist of this. :thumbsup:

There really isn't anything else that could be wrong aside from if the tape monitor function is doing its job, patchcords are good, or the EQ itself. I'm thinking EQ at this point but this is just what I have read so far!
 
I sprayed the equalizer with deoxit d5. Didn't work still. I'm going to try new rca cables. When i make a connection to one of the rca cables i can hear sound from me making the connection, also wiggling it also gets me a sorta feedback, then when i complete the connection with the second rca cable the feedback sound completely goes away. Idk where to go from here really. If i was to go about getting this serviced i wouldn't even know what exactly the problem is that needs to be fixed.
 
Try cleaning the RCA inputs/outputs on the back of the eq, if not already done. Use deoxit to do this. After spraying the inputs/outputs insert and remove the rca cables using a twisting motion a couple dozen times and then respray with deoxit and after it dries try it out.
 
It sounds as if you're removing/installing RCA plugs with the equipment on, this is best done with the equipment off. Otherwise it appear possible that your RCA cables may be the culprit. Let's see how the new cables perform.
 
77 posts and no Bose bashing? That is unprecedented at an audio forum :) I too am a past fan of 901's. I prefer the original (sealed) series I and II. So much that I bought and refurbished a few pairs. I believe there are 3 or 4 pair collecting dust in storage. Not that they sound bad, quite good if you give them some watts. In 2015 I detoured into horn speakers and haven't left yet. During my "Bose" period, I rarely used the stock EQ. Amazingly, the few units that passed through my hands were in working order, which itself is good report for 40-year old electronics. However, I use active EQ so the stock EQ was of no use. In fact, you could sell them at good prices on Ebay. Meanwhile, if anyone wans a pair cheap, drop me a line :) OK, a tiny bit of Bose Bashing: they are not known for pinpoint imaging. When you listen to horn speakers you get spoiled.
