Boston Acoustics T830 speakers, worth $120?

I recall these retailing for close to $600 new. I would consider $120 to be cheap for these, so long as the grills were intact, no chips or deep scratches on the cabinets, and non-crumbly surrounds on the mids & woofers. The cabinets are VERY well made. Having owned these, their flaw, IMHO, is that they were made too short. The Boston Acoustics T830 is a floorstanding design that needs to be placed on some sort of pedestal or stand. If you can find some means to raise them 20" - 24" above the floor, they change from being a nice speaker to being an downright awesome speaker. I'll put it this way: I could be happy & satisfied listening to these as my primary speakers for the rest of my days. If you don't want to go through the hassle of finding a way to get those tweeters above the height of your ears, consider replacing your existing living room furniture with beanbag chairs.

Give them a listen and if you really like them, they're worth it. If they sound good, but not great, then pass. Resale value on these is about 60 to 80 bucks, depending on condition.
I wonder if I can respond to an old post...here goes...

FWIW, I tried to sell a pair that I also put new surround in a few months ago for $200 obo, got one reply, still have the speakers. They are excellent speakers though, not thumpers but articulate, compact and good for those that are sharing walls with their neighbours.
Got them for $75....Just finished re-foaming the woofers.These speakers sound great! As long as you are listening from low to medium volume, they can handle anything and do a great job all the way down to about 30 hz. Got to back off the lower bass to get higher volumes. I have been listening for about a week now and I'm not sure I want to part with them. Ran them on a Pioneer SA-9100, and now on a Luxman L430.... both made have these speakers sing.
They would be worth approximately $1500 in 2023.
Did you do the midranges too? I know the foam is still probably "good", but it's very stiff and even the guys at Midwest Speaker said it's got to go.
These and the 930 are great and very underrated.
Thanks! they look good as you say... seem pliable but yes very stiff. Did the stiffness happen over time? or is it the type of foam they originally used that was not a good choice?
Yes, over time. They are supposed to be as supple as the new woofer ones you installed.
Agree on replacing the midrange foam.
And I would add the 1030s, bought a brand new pair on closeout when the VR towers came out.
