Bought a pair of KLH 120 Speakers Info?

Howdy, 70sGuy. Welcome to AK..... I believe you are fixing to find out a potentially painful truth about your KLH find....
These are later release speakers, made in China, I believe, and not considered all that great by just about everyone here. Having said that, one of the most important principles of AK is that the only ears your system has to please are YOURS..... SO, you may not get much commentary on your "new" speaks.
KLH is a company with a well-respected history dating back to the 70s- like your handle......These speakers have only the three letters of the name in common with the "real" KLH products from the 70s.
I see a JBL 2600 nameplate in your photos, there...How do you like them? How do the KLH compare...

Thanks for the warning about the made in China KLH speakers. Fortunately, these were made in the USA (See attachment lower left). I don't think that they are old enough to have been made in the 70s though. The JBL 2600s are bookshelf speakers with 6 1/2" drivers so the KLH with the 12" drivers have much more bass. The JBLs hold their own at lower volumes with the use of the loudness button on my Sanyo 2050 receiver. You have to turn off the Loudness button for the KLHs except at the lowest volume settings or else the bass overpowers everything else. The KLHs are particle board with veneer on top. The JBLs appear to be oak. I like using both sets of speakers together as the mids and highs of the JBLs compliment the bass of the KLHs.

If all you paid for them is $25, I would say you got yourself a speaker that is worth that in todays market. The tweeter looks to be decent. Almost reminds me of one of the polk replacements that are available. To late for me to remember all the talk about models, which is better, etc. I think that if they sound good to you, you got yourself a good deal.
Regardless, I still would have to agree with willhowl about the name. Even if they are made in the US, they are not the respected brand of decades ago.
Enjoy your new speaker. It is always fun to have something new to play with.

I am happy to see that I was wrong about your KLH pair.....Made In USA! Who'd a thunk it!!!!
I also agree with Boonaroo about that tweeter...it does look rather Polk-ish.....
I have a pair of JBL 2600, and really like them.....I also picked up a pair of KLH Model Thirty-Two, for chump change and really enjoy them- a lot! More on those later.
