Hmm, says "offers excepted"

Does that mean "offers accepted"? Or maybe it's "offers expected" :) ..could be "I take exception to your offers" :(.

Just saw this and can't look at the ad from work - net nanny blocks CL. If someone can PM me the contact info or post the ad...

BTW who knows what model these are? Or were. I searched around a bit and could not find a pic of that particular model. What are the chances of these sounding good with other drivers in them?

Nearly impossible to tell which model, or if they're factory cabinets without a shot of the back and the inside. There were many small shops and individuals who built VOT cabinets over the years, Altec would supply you with the drawings when you bought the raw drivers.

To me, they look like early(pre 1977/78) 828's, or reasonable facsimiles thereof. The removable panel with the port opening in it is characteristic of an early 828. Later models had those lower front panels recessed to accept a flush fitting grill over the entire lower front portion. like this: http://www.altecpro.com/pdfs/vintage/SpeakerAndMics/cabinets/828H LF Speaker Cabinet.pdf

Thanks, now I get it. I thought those rectangular openings were for horns, but those are the reflex ports. Did they use 811B horns sitting on top?

Certainly they did, but it wouldn't be out of the norm to find nearly any of the horn/driver combinations perched atop depending on the original application.

There are many woofers/bass drivers that will play well in those, i happened to settle on JBL 2035H in mine giving up some bass extension for superb midrange and an ultra flat impedance curve which makes them both passive crossover and tube amplifier friendly. They(VOT boxes) can even make a cheap Utah MI speaker sound pretty impressive.

Cool, thanks. If I end up owning them I will check back on drivers. They ad says the drivers are actually available, so I'm not sure what they're up to here.

Cubby, I'll be in touch if I get them AND want to let go of them.:D

The Altec literature I've seen also shows them with the horns hanging inside the ports. The Magnificents were also set up that way.

Here's hoping you get them. Close enough for me, but my wife would make me live in them in the back yard, I'm sure.:nono:

On the way to look at them. Guy also has 421A woofers for sale, 200 clams each, prof. reconed and not used since. He says they were originally used in these cabinets. I have no idea if that's a good price, I'd be happy with some cheaper woofers here. I'll report back.
