It'll always be these four, but if I had to rank them according to my listening preferences strictly within the confines of, say, 1964-1968, they'd come out thus(ly):

The Kinks
The Who
The Rolling Stones
The Beatles

PS: And the decision to rank The Kinks above The Who was a close close close call.

...and while in USA they were accused of being "rude and unprofessional", got booted, and didn't get back in until, when, 1969, via the "good offices" of Mr Allen Klein, IIRC.

The Kinks till the end of the day...
The Stones (Ken already took the good one)
The Beatles when I'm back in the USSR.

A highly respectable choice. Not my own, but highly respectable nonetheless. I especially like it, only by The Stones circa 1967-1969, in the "live" context.

Among them all, can't help but say Satisfaction, as in I can't get no. That was huge and for good reason. Still holds steady.
