An email or call to Bryston should get you good info, post a pic maybe ? Someone may be able to give you an idea of an approximate age. Is the front faceplate flat or does it have the heatsink fins in front ? Think flat are the older ones if I remember correctly.

The first generation 2B had the 2 as part of Bryston logo. Also had a curly cord. Dates circa 1980 give or take.
50 watts if I remember correctly. The next 2B has the heat sinks on the front face panel. Later models tagged 2B-LP.
I've owned a 3B with small chrome handles and a curly cord from new. Never an issue. NEVER! Powerful,dead quiet and it makes my KEF 103/3s(4Ohm)come alive.
I also have a 2B-LP that ain't no slouch. Bryston amps are bullet proof and can be repaired by Bryston when needed. Good factory support. Call them and they will tell you the day it was made.
As for what others think------- not important. How are you enjoying it?

All that really matters is what you think of it. And since you have a Carver amp to compare it to, Which is no slouch either, this should help you determine which is best for you. Play them both at the volume you listen to mostly and go from there. Myself, I value quality over quantity with respect to power, after all, a lot of the better AVR's out there can rattle the walls with bass, and produce concert level SPL's. But only the better amps can retrieve the small nuances in recorded music that makes it sound like the real thing too.
The 2B/3B/4B series Bryston amps are their first edition amps. The 2/3/4B-ST models are I believe a noticeable step up. That said, the first edition models are likely as good or better than most amps anywhere near their price range. It should sound outstanding operated under clipping driving just about any speaker made. Pretty much neutral in its presentation it will reproduce whatever you feed, Nothing more, Nothing less.
