Burt Bacharach

Yeah, I imagine that there are folks out there in 'music listening land' that don't appreciate Burt's talent (and that's ok). But Burt is one of those lads that is a talent within our nation's music history. :music:

Isn't this threadcrapping? Both the original and this one?

As the author of the post with the first :boring:, I was just trying to express the fact that his music has the same effect upon me as 10mg of Ambien. FWIW, Journey and Foreigner have the same effect on me as well.

I have Reach Out and Butch Cassidy on R2R tape. His singing IS pretty bad on Reach Out, but I can still remember my folks playing that on the old McIntosh/Bozak stereo as a kid, while we raced slot cars in the same room.

Bacharach is a criminally overlooked musician, who has had a tremendous influence on popular music whether people realize it or not. Great song-writer, incredible pianist. His music has stood the test of time and still works beautifully today. That's more than most musicians will be able to say 20+ years past their heyday.

Couldn't agree more.

It is, but pretty darn unusual from Finn, so I figgur he's sincere and give 'em a pass. Then again I ain't the one who makes those decisions. I feel the same about most popular artists today, just won't say so on a thread started by someone who likes them.

Back to Bacharach...like I said...awesome baby!

Sorry if I touched a nerve. Actually I like Dionne Warwick well enough and it was he (and Hal David) that helped launch her career. Props for that, indeed.

As far as watching and listening to him do his own music alone on piano, it always seemed overly sweet and sappy to me. Just my $.02.

No worries. On your side of things, did you see the SNL skit about the recording of "I Say A Little Prayer" where Val Kilmer plays Burt?

You know Stools... sometimes with your demeanor it's hard to tell if you're being serious or just pulling our leg.

...'cause like, you have a humorous way with words.

I have this record called 'Switched On Bach' and I see this thing called 'Switched on Bacharach' around a couple of times. I keep wondering whether it would be interesting to get or if its just an example of exploiting a trend... 'What's New Pussycat' moogified :scratch2:

Nah, you didn't hit a nerve. But I will say that BB's music is hard to pin down. Everyone knows about the flugelhorn heavy stuff, but he also wrote hits for Perry Como ("Magic Moments"), Merty Robbins, The Drifters and others. And let's not forget he worked with both Marty Robbins and Dr. Dre.

Burt's melodies are unique and distinctively Bacharach. He really is a major talent. His songs have been sung by Cilia Black, Jerry Butler, Brook Benton, Perry Como, Jackie DeShannon, The Drifters, Jack Jones, Patti Labelle, Trini Lopez, Rick Nelson, Gene Pitney, Elvis Costello, Dionne Warwick, The Shirelles, Marty Robbins, Dusty Springfield, Herb Alpert, Christopher Cross, Bobby Goldsboro, Gene McDaniels, B.J. Thomas, among others. That's quite a roster.
